Guest Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Hi. Things that I want it to be done.Change oilOil filterFuel filterAir filter Valve clearances Cam chain tensioner I can leave the bike for even couple of months to get these things done as I am not in any hurry...because summer isn't either Is any of you could do it or know anyone trusted that could please let me know. I rather pay someone privately and know that valve clearance is done as I have no chance of checking this one myself...If I won't find anyone I will do it myself Thank You Quote
Guest Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Don't know anyone, although stu does bugger all Have a go yourself, easy jobs to do and not worth paying for them to be done Quote

Checking the valve clearances and chain tensioner are the only jobs you may need a manual or guidance for. Quote

Plus you get to buy yourself a set of vernier or micrometers. Quote

Stu Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 I would love to offer my services but unfortunately I don't have the enthusiasm to do my own bike which is the priority first of course! Why are you replacing the cam chain tensioner? is there something wrong with it? Quote
Guest Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 ...Why are you replacing the cam chain tensioner? is there something wrong with it? I am not I wish someone check if all is ok. I left my bike to be checked over as I was going to sell it. So got bearings and fork seals done etc Mechanic told me that he took my bike out and he said it's in superb mechanical condition etc But I am not that convinced as items listed above haven't been done. I want new owner [if I decide to let it go] to enjoy riding and not worrying about stuff that is why I want to change/replace/update as much as I can Quote

Stu Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Ah thought you meant you wanted to replace it I would only look at replacing if it has chain rattle which I believe these don't suffer with what is the mileage on the bike? Quote

I wouldn't want to say that in advert. It's like selling Ikea CBR I am very simple (lazy as f***) person and if I saw something with advisory then I would steer away from it as I couldn't be arsed to deal and search garages and stuff and WAIT for things to be done. I believe that there are many with similar attitude I want my bike to be all singing and dancing. Valves again only if its at the recommended interval and unless cam chain tensioner specifies replacing or is it a manual adjuster ? It doesn't. I do not know. Ah thought you meant you wanted to replace it I would only look at replacing if it has chain rattle which I believe these don't suffer with what is the mileage on the bike? It doesn't have any rattle but I want to see if all is good. I used to mange to check all in my car but bike is a new level of "Why the f**k you put it there " It's taking everything apart to get the one thing done so I thought why someone/I will be at it might as well do it all Have 32k miles on it. Guest Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Is the mechanic who said its it superb mechanical condition not trustworthy enough to do it ? He is but he lives bit too far 400 miles away, Scottish Highlands. My bike delivery guy will be able to do so but not earlier than May So I need to find someone closer that I can ride it there [up to 100 miles] Quote
Stu Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 No rattle then all is well with the tensioner the valve clearances are due a check at 32k though they should be done every 16k I can recommend JAX motorcycles in York or john warrinton in malton who are better but thats as far as I can go If I could guarantee a timescale on when I would be able to do it I would but the way things are at the min I may even struggle to get mine done Quote
Guest Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 On what bike? Same model and type you are selling... CBR600RR 04 Quote

Is it a big job to take cover off and do a test or something ??? I will pop in to both places and ask.Thank you Quote
Stu Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 You can't just look at the tensioner well you can but you can't see anything You would have to remove it but even then there is nothing to actually check on them they either work or they don't if it was rattling and a known problem for them to go then I would just replace it as I am doing with mine! checking the valve clearances is a cam cover off job and adjusting will be a cams out job too either way the service you require is a fairly big one to be honest Quote
Guest Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 So I will just replace it, will get the new one I was going to get it all this done last year but my laziness just hit the new level last year. I do check regularly oil and had MOT done end of October all was in working order no advisory etc But I am feeling that all those things need to be done regardless of final decision of keeping the bike or not. Stu Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Sounds like a good contender for a trade in Quote

cockercas Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 How many miles on the bike? Typically the auto tensioner gets to the end of its life around 25k.Valves are easy to check. It takes longer to get to the them then it dose to do the job. If any need shimming then your ment to take the cams out but you can de rail them.Oil/oil filter are easy so is the air filter.Id offer to show you but ive not got any spare time Quote
