Hello, I'm new to the forum so hope this is in the right place. Basically, my bike got stolen around about 3 months ago however it was recovered and to what i thought, repaired. Recently I've been having a lot of electrical issues with my bike and i was wondering if i list some of the symptoms, would you guys be able to point me in the right direction. My bike is a 2005 Honda CBR 125. My main issue is i don't feel my bike is charging whilst running. I know it charges when idling, but when accelerating it doesn't charge. Ive recently replaced the reg/ rec and the battery is new and i have tested that the battery is charging which it does.

so, some of the symptoms I've noticed are:

- battery is charging when idling, but is draining when accelerating (tested with multimeter)

- the reg/ rec has been replaced with a working one and is sending charge to the battery when idling

- when i switch my bike ignition on, the neutral light comes on however when i press the start button the bike doesn't start. But if i wait around 5 seconds with the ignition still turned on and press the start button again, the bike will start. Basically, when i switch my bike on i can't start it straight away but i can a couple seconds later.

- Battery is holding charge at 12.8v roughly when engine switched off (its a new battery)

- indicators flash in a very erratic rhythm (sometimes normal, sometimes fast)

- Lights flicker when bike is idling (never go off but drift in brightness)

Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!

Heard of this alot with recovered bikes, must be how its hot wired or spliced. The lights flashing at random intervals could be simply a bulb is about to go or a larger issue with the wiring linking them. Had the same issue with one of my bikes, it turned out to be the wiring under the pillion seat was faulty, i replaced all 4 and was fine. Check all the fuses etc make sure no moron has put in the wrong one for a socket seen that a fair few times. You may have a problem with your voltage regular / wiring, maybe a stator pole is low (one of mine were and prevented charge). To be honest there are loads of possible reasons from a simple single wire to a major part. It also seems there is some sort of power drain or power "lag" somewhere on the line. Need to check every wire and circuit really to make sure things are ok. Hate bike thieves could at least keep a stolen bike in good order.

How long ago was it repaired?

If it's a result of the repair work, the mechanics who fixed it have an obligation to put it right.

Try checking the wiring from the alternator (generator) for damage . As for the delay in starting, here's a guess, have a look at your side stand cut off switch.Maybe it's gummed up with chain lube hence the delay in making a circuit. All said though, if a dealership fixed it and its not right then take it back.

Looks like i'll be giving myself a good telling off. I did the repair work, however the only visible damage which was done was the front right fairing was broken off to get to the wires and the wires to the ignition barrel were cut. So i ordered a new panel and replaced that, and ordered a new ignition barrel and fitted that. I consulted the wiring diagram and fit the part and all seems to be working. Before that i could start my bike by simply putting the black and red wires together which they cut...

i don't think it is due to being stolen to be honest, i just think maybe they've uncovered what was an underlying issue by riding and messing around with with wires underneath. I checked all the light connections and all other components and everything seems intact. It looked like they literally just went straight in, cut the wires and then dumped it. Strange thing is, it was found still running, stood upright on its stand so the thieves decided leaving it lying down on the floor wasn't a nice thing to do so out the stand down

Very considerate thieves...

Have you checked the continuity of the earth points? A dodgy earth can cause all kinds of odd stuff to happen.

Hi Matt, have you tested the main relay, it sits same side as the starter relay, if the thieves cut the ignition wires red and black these are the same 2 wires that connect to the starter relay, main relay, ICU and ignition switch, they could have disturbed the main relay, first of all just check that all connections to the main relay are valid, then try a main relay test as in the manual :thumb:
