Ok but why ask ME specifically?

Maybe he just thinks you're the top man for the job. :-D

But yeah, polarity on coils don't make no neverminds. I've certainly put them on both ways and it didn't make a jot of difference.

Have a look at where/how your coils fit. My ZXR for example has one straight spade and one angled spade per set of coil wires because it wouldn't fit if they were both straight.

Kind words but in this instance I know as much as the next bloke . Whenever I've removed coils in the past I've always written the wire colour on the coil . I'm inclined to agree that it doesn't matter which way round the wires go.

Yes I have the manual and it gives the colours of each wire that goes to the coil but it does not show you in the manual or give any details as to which is the top or bottom connection, if it did I would not need to ask you the question.

Thanks.

Ok but why ask ME specifically ? As I said I do not own a Yamaha XJ 900 so I can't nip out to the garage and have a look plus I'd have to take the tank off if I did . May I suggest you join a Yamaha owners forum in the hope that someone there is prepared to help out in this matter. The only thing I can think of is that it doesn't matter which way round the wires go but opinions vary concerning the polarity of coils . Sorry, hope you get it sorted soon .

I replied to you specifically because you were the person that gave details about the wire connectors, that's why I asked which wires go to which connector on the coils, if you did not know you should just have said so. Thanks for your help with colours etc.

Hopefully someone with an XJ900S will be able to help me, I have not and do not ride a bike, this is a trike project, I have no knowledge on any bikes wiring whatsoever.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have now got the bike/trike started, starts first time, but still have an issue which is the exhaust is a Delkevic 4 into 2, all down pipes get hot except number 2 which stays cold, the bike/trike seems to be firing on all 4 cylinders so not sure what the trouble might be, the bike/trike is over at a friends and I will not be back over until Tuesday, was going to swap plugs to see if the problem follows, failing that I was going to check cylinder 2 for blocked jets and clean if required, but any help or advice would be appreciated.
