The lubes in the van and the poor little links will be quenched first thing tomorrow.

When I got my first bike, it was a couple of months before I even realised that the chain needed lube, poor thing. It survived though.

Have we done this topic before? Or is it just déja vue? (classy 'é' :D )

I thought WD40 was a no-no for chains, an O ring killer. Or have I just been believing old wives' tales?

Well blow me down. Still learning stuff at my old age.

Decent advice all round here, one thing I would say is don't lube the chain until you've dried it off thoroughly, either with a cloth or compressed air as you can speed up the corrosion process if you coat the chain in lube/wax etc while there's water still on it. Speaking from experience

That's why it is always better to clean and lube the chain after a decent run to get it nice and warm, and once lubed leave it overnight to soak in.

Thanks everyone for the marvellous advice. Got paddock stand, chain cleaner, lube, and scrubby brush thing. You won’t be surprised to hear the chain was unhappily bone dry and had a plaque of dried black on the sprocket, another oops to add to a growing list of motorbike oops’!

MCOnline tested this a while back and found no ill effects when using wd-40 https://www.motorcyclistonline.com/mc-garage-video-will-wd-40-destroy-your-motorcycle-chain-o-rings
