geofferz Posted July 14, 2019 Posted July 14, 2019 My first tour6 in total - my mt10, triumph Street triple, bonneville, Thruxton, monster 1200s, and 600 hornet Friday rode from Sussex to Cheddar, then to Pontsticill near Merthyr Tydfil, Saturday rode to Dolgellau in Snowdonia, and back, then Sunday from Pontsticill back to Sussex. Much fun - amazing roads and views. Food and coffee leave a little to be desired. A470 is my new favourite road in the world. Bike was great, if a little thirsty (<100 miles to a tank). Comfort seat might be nice next time. Had to top up oil when I got in, and was filthy! Eww Better12v socket, USB adaptor, and phone holder kept battery at 100% and satnav worked a treat. First time using cheap but excellent comms unit - I couldn't hear my mate that well over 70mph that well but he could hear me fine, and has cutouts in his lid - I might take a scalpel to my cheek pads. Easy to fit and setup - decent range - can't complain! Streams music, takes calls, full day battery life, all good. Good tour - will do more. Quote
Six30 Posted July 14, 2019 Posted July 14, 2019 Stayed in a biker place in Dolgellau few years back , nice roads Quote
winston smith Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 Yep, agreed. There are some really good roads north of merthyr. Quote
geofferz Posted July 15, 2019 Author Posted July 15, 2019 The roads were so well kept! Beautiful smooth jet black tarmac with crisp white lines. Lots of resurfacing and line painting going on whilst we were there - I genuinely don't think I saw a single pothole, until virtually the moment we crossed back over the border to England where suddenly my glutes - tired and sore from the 500 or so miles - started screaming due to the moguls on the a40. Guest Richzx6r Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 Why do we put up with the shite roads in England, maybe we should all boycott the road tax till they start repairing the roads already there instead of laying more roads that won't get kept to a decent standard Quote
oldgrump Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 Hi geofferz , glad you enjoyed the Welsh roads, next time try some of the B road's, they are a little bit challenging. The B4235 from Chepstow to Usk then the B4598 to Abergavenny, A479 to the A470 and the famous 365 -the A483 to Newtown 365 bends brill. Just so many good road's could carry on listing all day .Me and the missus did a 3 day 895 mile blast last Mon/Wed fully loaded Vfr here's what's left of rear tyre .,Oops. Quote

Local authority expenditure on roads is severely curtailed because of having to meet huge pension and wage bills for the hierarchy. It comes to something when council bosses pay themselves more than the prime minister of the UK. Quote
skyrider Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 that's probably why we get crap prime ministers Quote
