i think if the roads are governed by the local council and policed then all the rules apply :?

The thing is the local council doesn't own or upkeep the roads on that estate, they are owned by the estate and all the residents pay the people who run the estate to arrange the upkeep of the roads etc.

Here's a question Drew, I have a couple of friends who live on a private estate with private roads, but there is no physical barrier stopping members of the public driving onto the estate, but there is a small sign saying for residents only.

Now here comes my question,my friends have both rode their bikes on the estate before they go a license, without insurance(obviously with no license) and pillion passengers. They have also driven cars around the estate in the simular situation.

What would the legal implications of this be, they and their parents, as do many members of the estate think that it's totally legal and there's nothing wrong with it.

The thing that always got me, if it is legal, then what would happen if a child got knocked over or they hit someones car/property?

:? confused.

Its Illegal, Its a public place.

Thank you very much Drew, that's what I said, but ofcourse I know nothing.

Sorry for thread hijak, you can have it back now.

In law the estate would come under the definition of a 'public place' mate because people readily have access to it blah blah blah. Just like a supermarket carpark, Pub carpark during hours of buisness etc etc etc

I phoned my insurers to get a quote on a bike i was going to look at, gave them model, colour, year etc. got the train down south, bought the bike, phoned insurance again, they were shut. Rode bike home, got stopped, got a producer, phoned insurers next day expecting cover to start previous day when phone call was logged, they wouldn't do it!! said i should of got a pin number.

wrote a letter explaining all this to magistrates, still got 6 points but only fined £40. Going rate is £200 I believe.

It was a genuine mistake on my part.

Also got done for carrying passenger on my moped when i was 16.

Had a job in France driving kids around in a minibus on an adventure centre. The minibus had a trailer hooked up to it with 5 huge white-water rafts on it, each capable of holding 10 people.

Unbeknownst to me or the Centre, due to the date i passed my test the max trailer weight i could tow was 500kg, which would just about allow me to tow an anemic ferret full of helium.

That's about it really.

Ok officer, i'll come quietly

.....which brings me onto my pet-licence-hate:

How come someone decided that with no additional training than me, someone who passed their car test 2 years before me can drive a van up to 7.5 tonnes as opposed to my 3.5, a minibus with 16 passengers as opposed to my 8, and tow a caravan as opposed to my helium-filled ferret?!?

Whinge over

How about carrying a pillion with a broken leg (Full leg cast) whilst not being an ambulance....

Fell off that night and me and the bike landed on his bad leg..... We were both laughing when I picked him up.... Strong cast that one... :D

Once tried to find out how fast a hire car would go.....

1.3 escort popular plus ( Damn... Showing my age)...

Valve bounce in TOP.... Indicated 118mph...

17000 miles on the clock when we picked it up and it sounded like 117000 when we took it back...

Once upon a time I learnt to drive without insurance. It wasn't intentional, just a mess up.

A little more recently, but not within 6 months, I had a car swapping sesh with my uni mates.

I love land rovers :D

As for bikes? Nothing, officer, nothing at all :angel12:
