husoi Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 (edited) I have an oxford that I got from herehttps://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/46459/27907,3190,0I also have a chinese smart charger, it recover dead batteries and it runs on both AGM and Li-On.Forgot to mention.there is a link to sport bike shop here in the forum so they will get some cash for maintenance Edited May 7, 2020 by husoi Quote
husoi Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 The connection is to be done directly to the battery. You definitely want a fuse on the positive in case there is power surge. The oxford have a female cable that you will connect to the bike permanently so when you want to plug it you don't need to remove anything.Make sure you get a charger that is also a trickle charger so you can leave it plugged during winter Quote

Gerontious Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Also i am looking to hard wire a plug to the bike for easy connection. think ahead.. is an easy connection for the charger all you are likely to need. or might you want to connect something else in future. perhaps have your phone on charge.. or in use on the bike. or even a tyre inflator.a lot of modern bikes come with a power socket.. and this is perhaps worth considering. Pie man Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Not sure how old your MT07 is. There is an auxiliary switched DC power outlet under the tank. Also you can get the bits off the bay . Quote
ollie89 Posted May 7, 2020 Author Posted May 7, 2020 its a 2019 had a bit more look into the CTEK chargers the mxs 5.0 looks ok as well (i think) as its compatible with parts that have the inline fuse and battery check on the plug although you could fit your own inline fuse on other parts my worry would be vibration over time degrading connections Quote
Stu Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Optimate all the way for me! https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/78238/27907,3190,0 has an inline fuse if you're worried I have never had issues with connections and you can run accessories off the permanent lead if need be Quote

I thought you wanted to install a charger i.e. phone charger I have an MT07 (2019) and fitted the optimate like the one mentioned from Sportsbikeshop. If I knew how to upload a pic I would, sadly, as much as I like technology, I think I'm a schizophrenic technophobe Quote

ollie89 Posted May 8, 2020 Author Posted May 8, 2020 Thanks for all your advice i had a message back from CTEK this morning they recommend either the XS 0.8 or the MXS 3.8 and say you only need a fuse if you are using to draw current from ie charging some thing they also do a pre made connection with and indicator light on to let you know batterie state so will probably go with that as well then fuse is moulded inline no risk of a third party one coming loose inline cheers Quote
