Bainbridge1202 Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Hi everyone,I have a suzuki gsx s125. Ive had it a year from new ive done 3,500 miles, the past 3-4weeks my top speed on a flat has went from 75-78mph to 60-62mph im not exactly clued up on motorbikes so was wondering if anybody knows what could cause loss of power?? Bike was serviced in febuary and had no power issues until 3-4weeks ago where it seems to struggle to get to 60 ive had air filter changed hoping that was the issue.Any advice would be appreciatedThanksPaul Quote
Rob Taylor Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Check the plugs first off.Sounds like a fuel issue, but I'm not familiar with your bike. Does it have an external fuel filter? Check the easy and cheap things first then go from there. Check the cylinder compression too. Do you have a manual for it? It will make your life much easier. Quote
fastbob Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 If you have been getting 78 mph out of a 125 four stroke you have probably thrashed the life out of it ! Provided the big end and gearbox are ok , the best thing you could do is a full top end refurbishment . Until you get the head and barrel off you won't know what's needed but a new piston and rings plus some new valve springs would put the zing back into it . Quote
Bainbridge1202 Posted May 26, 2020 Author Posted May 26, 2020 Sorry was meant to say ive had it from nearly new, it was owned by suzuki themselves because it was an exhibition bike when they first launched it, had 400 miles on it when i got it in may last year and only got a 6 month warranty from dealer, it would sit comfortably at 75 with a little bit more room to play on throttle i always just used to keep it at 70 so i wasnt thrashing it all the time.ThanksPaul Quote
Snod Blatter Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Do the wheels spin freely? Is the chain nice and free, not gone rusty and stiff? It doesn't take a lot to bring down the top speed of a 125! Quote
Guest Richzx6r Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 check the easy things first before you go spending money, also check that the throttle cable is operating freely and through it's full range as it may just need lubing Quote
rennie Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Hello and Welcome check all the cheap silly things first! Are your brakes binding slightly? Quote
