Hi peoples some help and advice needed please, I am in need of a website but I have no idea where to start.

Would a hosting site like Wix, Godaddy etc be the way to go or should I look at going for some other options.

Main purpose would be to promote my photography and printing services, but I would also need to include a modelling agency which will need to have a registration system of some sort with photo and video capability.

Any help and advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike.

I have found Wix really easy to use.

It's integrated, so you can buy domains, use pre-designed templates, edit them or build your own etc. It also offers eCommerce plugins, SEO and CRM tools.

I've not really heard bad things about it, and it's done exactly what I needed / wanted.

Wix do seem to be a better choice than Go Daddy.

I have had a look at their template samples not sure if all my needs would be covered though, I suppose it will be a case of having a go and see what happens.

The trouble with wix etc is that you still need some idea of what you're doing!

A lot of website developers will charge you a lot plus a monthly/weekly cost

I could probably do it given a bit of research etc

In simple terms I want to showcase my own photography portfolio, Have a custom sales page for the printing side, then finally incorporate a modelling agency where people can showcase their portfolios with a registration.

I have found another domain name place online and can get a .co.uk and a .com both of them for £1 and £6 currently in a sale, but  i think this is on a yearly renewel is that normal or can you buy them outright forever etc.

Always on renewal

Thats a good price  to be honest

Would that be worth buying now then choose a hosting site at a later date.

Thats entirely your call

You can use any hosting site you like though

I suppose it would depend on how long that sale lasts

This where I struggle, because I could go with a place like wix and get a domain free as part of the package, or lease one seperately but still have to pay a hosting company anyway.

Yeah I know but would wix hold your data  to ransom if they had a price hike? would you be tied to them?

This is my other concern, buying a domain I could secure for 10 years plus.

Right i'm going to buy them but there is something about a proxy thing for £6 a year, should I get this too while i'm at it.

You're right @dynax that there's tweaking to do and I guess a custom-built site will always deliver exactly what you need.

Did you see Photography Website Templates | Wix.com

You can play about with the templates there. Looking at your requirements (and having the benefit of seeing the additional features behind the sign in wall) I think you could do what you wanted pretty quickly.

Not had a proper look at them, but have seen a few web hosting options, anyway for the time being I have secured both .co.uk and .com domains along with email accounts for both, just a matter now of finding a suitable host and building my site. I did have a go with the editor from where I puchased the domains, to get a bit of a feel for the design and content.

Ideally I want to be able to have the option to charge a monthly hosting fee for the modelling agency side for freelance models too.

What a fekking ballache, After trying around 40 or so templates still no further on, what happened to simple text boxes that you can place where you want, why can't you change the text size and location, it's no wonder most websites look the same you can't change anything, so much for rugged individualism I might as well have a pair of boobs on the homepage it will be just as effective 🤣
