Checking No3

Recommended Posts

Ok so I have replaced the loom on my bike...

All works...

Except cylinder no 3, gut feeling is it's the carb.

However I think I should start by checking the new to me loom.

Can I use multi meter to see if I get a signal to the coil?

Can I switch cylinders 2&3 to see if fault moves?

Yes there is fuel in bowl.

No I have not yet look at plug..  to do that I have to access coil so was going to go step by step..

removing carbs is a work up I would rather avoid until I know electric side is good...

Got any carb cleaner? or something similar that flammable? give it a quirt in to number 3 and if its fuel related then it will fire that cylinder up confirming if you have a spark ;-)

@Stu  thanks for suggestion to spray into one carb I have to take half of bike apart...  By the time I have rebuilt anything flammable will of evaporated..

Photo shows back of 1 coil pack.

Well in that case then swap the plug caps and see if it moves

the coils will fire in pairs and always have a wasted spark on a plug so swapping them should make no difference

Although once you have the bike apart you could get it running without the airbox on and squirt some carb cleaner in :?

Had the old heart in mouth moment today must remember that carb bowl screw drains directly on to the hot exhaust 😫

Tried her today, found what I think is the cause, split vacuum hose.

She started running on all 4 cylinders, I switched 3&4 no change.

the vacuum hose has long been gremlin on trophies will start a new thread for suggestions on my solution...
