Not me but a 17 y/o lad.

Had play in mates trust and go.

Yesterday I spent 10 minutes letting him try with clutch control against a wall finding biting point.

Hes got his highway code, any free android apps that you recommend?

What other advise would you give...

I've been riding a little over a year and a month ago passing my DAS to full license.

  1. Take your time, ride to YOUR limits not your mates that you're out with.
  2. Don't beat yourself if you make a mistake, even experienced riders still make them from time to time. Not that they will ever admit it :D
  3. Don't ride too close to whatever is in front of you. Being a cental London rider this can be awkward at times.
  4. Ease off when it's wet.
  5. Ride as though no one has seen you.
  6. I know it's easy to just grab your lid and ride in normal jeans and trainers, but dont. Wear the proper kit, it doesn't have to cost a fortune but the right gear will help if it goes wrong.

I used the Theory 4 in 1 app, which not only covers bikes but cars, PSV and lorry. The questions are VERY ;) close to those in the exam along with the hazard avoidance videos too. Only costs a couple of quid for the full version.

Get further training, CBT is the absolute bare minumim of instruction and doesn't teach you a lot. Do DAS asap.

At 17 he will little point in doing DAS £1000 he cannot afford for very little gain…

There in lies the issue with the present system…

CBT is hard to pass, hard to fail. Easy to need a second day.

From what I can tell, a lot depends on the school, and their approach. Some places,  you get to lunch time and all they've done is talked at you about safety gear. You don't sit on the bike until the afternoon, and no surprise that you're unlikely to be able to get out on the road before its too late. Other places take a look and take the people who look half competent out and make sure they at least their couple of hours on the road.

Best approach would be to ask the school how many people get through the CBT on their first day and you'll get a good idea of how they run the thing.

I am not certain what the title was, but it now says after CBT not before.
