workpeter Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 (edited) Around 3pm today, 3 guys pulled up in a small white van wearing masks. One got out and lifted up my bike cover to expose the rear wheel and the motorbike security chain around it. At that moment they fled. Wasn't sure if it was because of the chain or because they saw me reacting through the living room window. I've since placed a spare portable motion detector alarm on the bike seat under the bike cover. Do you think they will come back to finish the job? Edited November 15, 2021 by workpeter 2 Quote

Depends if they think it’s worth nicking having looked under the cover. Quote
workpeter Posted November 15, 2021 Author Posted November 15, 2021 not sure they got a good look at it. I have my cover tied down (due to cross winds) so they may not have seen how worthless and beat-up it is. Quote
workpeter Posted November 15, 2021 Author Posted November 15, 2021 (edited) Maybe my license plate number spooked them off. Saw that it was 16 years old and was like nah. lol Edited November 15, 2021 by workpeter Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 Sorry to hear that. It is unsettling. I was talking with a guy who uses a cheap bike alarm attached to his cover so it goes off if anyone moves the cover. Quote
husoi Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 Thieves are opportunistic idiots and if went wrong with you they will go elsewhere where they won't be spotted. I would pass a naked cable connected to the mains so if they touch it again they will regret it. A chain takes too long to cut and will be noisy while there are less protected bikes out there that will be easier to nick. That's the reason why people use ground anchors, they are a pain to cut. I'm with @Mississippi Bullfrog something that will go off as soon someone messes with the cover will definitely help. Quote
