Oh-Danny-Boy Posted March 23, 2023 Share Posted March 23, 2023 I know that helmets should be replaced every 3-5 years. The lid I have is about 7 years old. It was used for about 18 months, and been in storage since. Does it need replacing? My understanding is that it's the elements that weaken them. Any additional input / clarity welcome. Mississippi Bullfrog Posted March 24, 2023 Share Posted March 24, 2023 The construction of modern helmets means that the outer shell is good for longer than 7 years. It's the inner cushioning that gets hammered, but that's more with the amount of use than just age. You can replace the inner padding and linings but it's not really cost effective.
