richie37 Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 (edited) Hi everyone I need a bit of help I have a kawasaki zr7 1999 that will crank over really slowly drains the battery and terminals get warm. I have taken the spark plugs out and it turns over great put the spark plugs back in and it turns over slowly. I've taken the starter motor out of the bike and wired it up with jump leads and it spins over fine. I am able to spin the engine by hand so the engine isnt seized. Any advice would be appreciated cheers Edited September 29, 2023 by richie37 Quote
Stu Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Hi and welcome to the forum Have you tried a new battery? Quote
richie37 Posted September 29, 2023 Author Posted September 29, 2023 Yes I bought a new battery yesterday. The bike had been standing for 10 years. I've lubed the piston barrel before I even tried to turn the engine over by hand. I've replaced the starter solenoid, the brushes in the starter motor and 2 ground and 1 live cable. Quote
fredc Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 hot terminals are usually caused by loose or dirty connections Quote
richie37 Posted September 29, 2023 Author Posted September 29, 2023 Ok fab thanks for the information il double check everything over the next few days Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 Pay particular attention to the earth lead where it connects to the frame. That's the most common source of poor connection. 1 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Just another thought. Spins over fine you say when its out but is it weak? When its under strain of internal compression is it really cranking over enough? Quote
