MT-125 display swap?

Hi all

Ive had my 2015 yamaha mt125 for about a year now, I just passed my A2 license so looking to upgrade as soon as I get my no claims which is next month. However the display is ruined. The best I can describe it is that when I turn the keys, information lights up fine, fuel gauge works, neutral light etc. But as soon as I introduce power it goes completely blank. Occasionally the display will stay lit but will completely freeze and display "130" mph for example, a bit of a glitch. Did some research online, checked all the connections, grounding etc and it seems that I need a new display as this is irreversable, however new displays cost around £500 and £300 used. I don't really fancy dropping this money on a bike I am going to sell in a few weeks, I just need the display to work for the mot.

I did notice on Ebay though that I can buy the yamaha wr125 display for something like £30, the connection plug seems to be the same. I can also get a 2020 mt125 display for a reasonable price. I am just wondering if I can buy one of these plug it into my bike and it will work?

Any suggestions please ask. And any other solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming you do need to replace the screen (have you asked a Yamaha dealer? Although they'll probably say yes you do!) it may be worth dropping £30 on the ebay one to try and make it fit. Alternatively try and source one that's for your model. For sure when you come to sell it the lack of a working display will knock a sizable chunk off the value.

Hi, welcome.

A lot of the clocks are interchangeable, you are best finding out the part number to see which ones will work. I'll put a link up so you can see what yours is to start with, then you can look to see what else uses the same and go from there. The mileage is stored on the clock (meter)

Alternatively there are some folk who repair them, they used to advertise on ebay, never used them so don't know but could be worth a look.
