Planning permission has been approved to build a replacement. Hopefully this one will progress.

I haven’t seen the proposal - their last effort was a somewhat Grand Designs style steel and glass edifice.

Be glad to see it happen. Use the pass from time to time and the empty bomb site isn't conducive to stopping.

It’s on one of my “I’m just popping out for a quick ride” loops from home. It’s about an hour in to the ride so somewhere for a quick break would be welcome.

I use the pass if I'm not in a rush to get to either Morpeth or Barnard Castle or going the other way. The road from Alston to Hexham isn't bad either.

Lots of nice roads out that way but it's bad with power rangers when it's busy.

One of the joys of being retired, I can choose my times to ride “off peak” as it were.

Another of my “out for a ride” loops uses that to avoid the military road between Greenhead and Chollerford on route to Kielder before heading back via Newcastleton.

The road from Bellingham up past Kielder and then over to Newcastleton and down Liddlesdale is quite good as I remember.

I’ve seen news of a “ride out to the newly opened Hartside cafe” pencilled in for March 2025 - actual date to be confirmed.

That looks like a quick turnaround build time. I’m hoping to get out on the bike this afternoon to go there and see if they’ve started on the build. Dependent on the delivery we’re expecting..

Let us know how they're getting on, I didn't notice much change when I want past in July but I was hurrying 😂.

Looks like a simple design so hopefully achievable

Blueprint of the new site, showing a modern building with lots of windows

They have yet to break ground. It could be interesting building up there over the autumn and winter. It was a bit windy and several degrees cooler than here when I was up there this afternoon.

recently turned up that the owner of said café .. has not given a date for opening .. and any meeting is frankly presumptuous .. just more sh1t on farcebook ..

Disappointing but as long as it does eventually reopen I'll not mind too much. I come that way fairly regularly when I'm trundling backwards and forwards to Northumberland and can't face the idea of yet more motorway.
