husoi Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 For those who thought l would have given up on the idea. Well, I haven't Other far more urgent matters in between and this had to go on the back burner for a while. It's now time to put the money where the mouth is and started the project. Warning, I have no idea when it will be complete. With a very demanding job, selling the house, buying a new one and the kerfuffle of moving it will take a while. First, clean the disks. Started today. Hopefully will be done during the afternoon. You guys get your savings together. Wont be taking any money for the work and the parts I will need won't be expensive. A gift for the best forum in the UK But I expect the auction to gather a good sum. 4 1 Quote
husoi Posted August 4, 2024 Author Posted August 4, 2024 By the way. Anyone here good with printing in metal? Need the forum's logo somehow on the dial bit Quote
husoi Posted August 4, 2024 Author Posted August 4, 2024 If nobody comes forward I'll need a couple to use instead. Was trying to make it look more professional. 1 Quote
husoi Posted August 10, 2024 Author Posted August 10, 2024 Wee update. Parts in place, because I can't weld aluminium to steel, will have to create a fixing to replace the cable ties I like the way the top disk goes into the 2 cuts I've made. A bit more stability. Next will be welding a SS bar underneath with a small upstand welded to the vertical disk. Then order the clock mechanism. Unfortunately I can't find a mechanism with a bike sound at each hour Like a biker's big Ben 3 Quote
husoi Posted August 11, 2024 Author Posted August 11, 2024 Good progress Structure is done. Simply welded a bar to go under the base disk with a wee upstand to hold it together and solid Was wondering between gold or black hands. Definitely black will be better contrast with the steel background. 2 Quote
AstronautNinja Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Disappointed with your lack of ability welding ally with steel tbh. I expected better 1 Quote

I expected better I'm not a metalworker, nor a welder and don't want to be one Have a DIY welding machine that does what I need. Have a trailer with near 10k miles without a problem to show the quality of my work. Definitely not here to please everybody 1 Quote

Bianco2564 Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Looks good. Ive made a couple, one out of an old M3 disc which I have in the garage and another from an old GT3 race car disc which I gave to my son in law as a Xmas present. I also made a windmill out of my old cooling fan from the M3. 2 Quote
husoi Posted August 21, 2024 Author Posted August 21, 2024 Latest update Clock mechanism arrived. Went for black hands and red seconds hand. Got the sticker to add to it. Still deciding how it will be done. Next order the perspex to go on the middle and hold the clock. Not sure if this will be okay. Personally I think is dreadful Probably will order the perspex long enough to take the sticker while holding the clock. obviously, properly centered and just below the hole for the clock. Quote
AstronautNinja Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 It'd probably me pretty cheap to have the logo laser etched into some metal if you fancied 1 Quote
husoi Posted August 21, 2024 Author Posted August 21, 2024 Crossed my mind a CNC laser but don't have enough engraving to do that would justify 400 quid on one Quote

The cheap ones cost around 100 quid and I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Precision is not good and is almost a disposable machine. Runners and other moving parts will give up on life very quickly. Quote

Oh I was on about having someone etch / engrave something for you to save buying a machine yourself Quote
husoi Posted August 21, 2024 Author Posted August 21, 2024 Because I won't be receiving anything from making it, I will be spending as little as possible Even if I'm not Scottish I like to save if I can 1 Quote

Ian Frog Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Hi mate Just a thought, what would it look like if the perspex was big enough to allow you to mount the logo at the top preferably with all the lettering losing the white background for clear? Feel free to tell me to fvck off if you are busy trying to sort it lol. Cheers Ian 1 1 Quote

Ian Frog Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Yes that's what I had in mind but losing the white background and possibly leaving the mechanism on view . Just a thought. Cheers Ian 1 Quote
Bianco2564 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Can you get a smaller TMBF sticker? I think it would look better if the lettering were the same width as the centre of the disc and the clock mechanism pokes through the middle of the M & B. I had my BMW sticker made online to my required dimensions. Could add a bike manufacturer logo below the TMBF, Honda,Suzuki etc to customise it for your chosen machine. Quote

Possibly yes, I believe there is a minimum quantity you can order. Keep in mind that the idea is to make a clock out of the disks that would have been thrown. Once finished it will be auctioned to raise funds to allow @Stuto run the forum. I would have a fight between the bidding members if I put a brand instead of another, so that's a no I think I will go with the idea from @Ian Frog The perspex choice instead of normal acrylic is the ease to work with and if heated can be moulded to the disk. O was considering a dark blue perspex to contrast with the white of the sticker. I think transparent will work. Besides, I can always blame @Ian Frog if you guys don't like it 1 1 Quote
Bianco2564 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Just looked online, 72 stickers ,80mm x45 are less than £8. Custom sizes available depending on the size of the disc. When I did the BMW clock, I only bought 2 stickers. Perhaps Stu could get these ordered and donate one to your cause? Rest can be sold? The winning bidder could have their choice of bike make added, generic badges are cheaply available on eBay. Quote
