muldoon74 Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 After 50/60 miles or so on my CB125F the seat does seem to get a bit "hard", as if the padding ahs eventually squished down to the frame (particularly in the inner buttock area at the sides).. I'm on amazon and there are too many to choose from and I'm getting fed up scrolling through reviews.. Can anyone recommend a seat cover (gel or air as per title) for around the £15-£30 price tag? I'm doing regular over 60/70 miles on my weekend days out now and as I cant afford DAS and bigger bike, I need to tweak the (brilliant) CB125F for greater comfort as I have 150/200 mile days planned for before the winter starts... husoi Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 Not the straight forward process, however, I have upgraded my seats with gel pads that you can get from AliExpress for about 30 quid. You can check yt clips explaining how to do it. If you decide to go down that route get the 2cm pads not the thin 1cm ones. The memory foam topper is a must. I went from 75 miles to 140 by just adding them. 1 3 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 Any local upholster could do it, refoam with thicker or better quality and shaped if they really want to push the boat out, pvc is better (unless it that Chinese shite) than leather. Quote
muldoon74 Posted August 20, 2024 Author Posted August 20, 2024 Thanks for the reply guys but I don't want to be pissing about with upholsterers etc, all I'm really after is a simple reasonably cheap gel/air seat pad to slip on over the seat and can then transfer to a new bike if required. 1 Quote

To be honest, for £30 quid, all of the air cushions you see on eBay are the same. Just go with one with highest reviews. I used one for my trip to France a few years back and it’s was alright, still ached after a few hours. Found it worked best when semi-deflated. Edited August 21, 2024 by Joe85 Quote
AstronautNinja Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 I've seen padded shorts advertised, on the road bike padded shorts are an abosolute life saver and crucial in voiding quite sever pain. Something like that may also be a comfy addition? Quote
Capt Sisko Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 (edited) I wouldn't go for an air cover for general riding. They are great for long distance stuff when you're generally sat in one position, (trust me, I've done 3x 1,000mile in 24hrs rides with them) and they do work on long rides like that, but once on the twisties they, or rather you move around a bit and you feel disconnected from your bike. If you chose to go down the air route the secret is not to have much air in them, in fact hardly any. All you need is a small air pocket between your bum and the saddle. Don't blow them up hard! Some people use the mesh 'Cool Cover' style covers. Me, tried it, didn't like it, but others love them. Lastly there are sheepskin covers. Some of the diehards of the Iron Butt Association, (who's minimum requirement to join is one of the aforementioned 1,000mile rides) swear by them. I've never used one, but many members do. Lastly, don't be so hard on your CB125, there are days when even the seat of my R1250RT, a bike designed for long distances feels like I'm sitting on a plank. Fiddlesticks Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 We have the cool covers. Not cheap for the originals, but OK. Main benefit is cooling, as the name would suggest, but they do make things a bit more comfortable. Also allows water to drain, although this doesn't prevent wet bum syndrome on its own. Quote
RideWithStyles Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 (edited) Hello Joe85 m, where u been? We thought you’ve been banged up for being naughty on your “too fast for anything” bike? Edited August 21, 2024 by RideWithStyles Quote
S-Westerly Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 I had a gel pad for the Ducati. Cost about £40 and reduced the discomfort level quite a lot. Current bike I don't feel the need but on long rides I do use undershorts with gel inserts which give an extra hour or so before discomfort becomes a thing. One thing I'll suggest is to take a break every hour or so. That can help a lot. 1 Quote
muldoon74 Posted August 24, 2024 Author Posted August 24, 2024 (edited) Plumped for a pair of gel padded shorts from amazon. If they're crap its only £12.. And to be fair it's my first bike so if they're good they'll carry over to the next one and the CB isn't too bad really. I maybe just want car seat comfort everywhere I go... bud Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 A lot of the dispatch riders used to swear by sheep's skin to go on the saddle, before we had air bags. Quote

Bit fussy maybe but if I get a bike I'm gonna do touring miles on then looks won't matter... 1 Quote

Got them yesterday, tried them on they felt OK. Only thing I would say before testing them tomorrow is they feel like you've got a load in your shorts! Hopefully function will nullify this... 1 Quote
