Essexboy Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 All, I have foolishly signed up for a tour of Morocco in the New Year and am looking at tyres suitable for a gravel/tarmac mix. Has anybody out there fitted these to a road bias Multi 1260? I'm finding it difficult to find stuff that is suitable and that will fit my rims. 17" f&r ps please don't tell Bonio as he's not speaking to me currently 1 1 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 (edited) Should be easier if we know what make of tyre you prefer if you have one? Pirelli, Michelin? No point of calling out a brand if you dont get on with that one as a road tyre. I’m guessing the sizes are 120/70 ZR17 58W, and the rear tire size is 190/55 ZR17 and tubeless? If so loads are available. are you riding it there and back or is it being transported there? then on what mix of on road to off it your thinking of going? 80/20?That will have an implication of what to suggest, road tyre to get you there and back home but change it to a more off road biased version when you get there and then back to the road tyre afterwards might be a possibility? Essexboy Posted September 3, 2024 Author Posted September 3, 2024 Hi Thanks for the info. Yes you're correct with the sizes quoted and I'll be riding it there and back on one set of tyres. 4000 miles in total and approximately 1000 of those on gravel. I use Michelin by choice but happy to use anything that'll be suitable and would last the trip. I've not ventured off the tarmac previously either and I'm more gormless than guru Ta Quote
Fish Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 I'd say to take some inner tubes just in case Quote
S-Westerly Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Try asking the Multistrada forums there's more chance of someone having done something similar. The nearest I did on my Multistrada which was the smaller one was Kielder forest road which isn't really 1000 miles in Morocco. I had the original Pirelli Scorpions on at the time and they were OK. Stu Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 To be honest I think the bike is irrelevant! I would just check out the reviews on the types of tyres available I have mates who use the michelin Anakee with no complaints then one guy I know doesn't like them because someone told him they are crap I have a mate who uses the Pirelli scorpions and has had no issues and before that he had the Metzeler tourance again no issues Quote
Essexboy Posted September 3, 2024 Author Posted September 3, 2024 All good advice. Cheers! I'll keep trawling and see what I come up with. Limiting factor seems to be the rim size from what I can ascertain. Plenty of hybrid tyres for 19", not so many for 17" Thanks again Quote
bonio Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Would someone tell mister essexboy that I had Anakees on my GS when I first had it. I found them noisy, though and when I finally swapped them out for pilot roads the bike became a lot more surefooted. I've currently got Dunlop mutants on the drz and I'm very happy with them. They seem to do well on all kinds of surfaces. Not sure how they'd fare on a heavier bike but it would be worth checking out the reviews. https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre/Dunlop/Mutant.htm Quote
Essexboy Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 More top advice.... May treat you to a cuppa at Epping Tea Hut tomorrow Quote

RideWithStyles Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Agree with Stu. Just stick to the tyre manufacturer you get on with the most, most of their road design eithos (handling quirks) is translated to adventure tyres too. non of the big brand make shite tyres. Then as your a road going person rather than a hotshot off roader that could use the best out of them, so you pace off road will be slower naturally, go 80/20 at most as your using it mostly on the road than on it using off road tyres on the road are very different feeling. if you used owt near true off road by the time you get there’ll probably be well past their best anyway, then you’ll have to make the journey back on very well worn tyres that depend on sharp blocks to work and different pressures depending on the ground it’s using, if your not sure what those will be you’ll just wear them out even faster….which are already alien to you. oh and fish, dont think you can take tubes on that bike if it’s the one I’m thinking it is? as the tyre and more importantly the rim is tubeless design from memory its more road bias bike. Essexboy Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 That makes and sense. Thanks for taking the time to explain. Got a couple of contenders now Quote
