Bender Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I've yet to go to a country that I thought didn't like us or scowled at our passport, we've been to a fair few, I've yet to go to afar though and I would love to go to some of the middle east countries but that would just be silly and irresponsible. S-Westerly Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I've been to a few and the only place I've had issues with a British passport was Venezuela and even there it was more of an excuse to squeeze the gringo. 1 Quote
IndigoJo Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 It's not really about whether the locals are lovely or not or like the Brits or not (or just don't mind our money). In Iran the government are thugs who take innocent tourists hostage. In other countries many people are prejudiced and in some places there are terrorists and/or bandits. In Iran, the terrorists and bandits are the government. 7 Quote

And have been amazed how positive her experiences recently travelling through Iran and Iraq have been. Can’t help wondering though if she had either a UK or American passport if that would still be the case. I’ve read Revolutionary Ride by Lois Pryce and, apart from a couple of incidents it was a very positive experience (not that I would dream of going there ). Quote

It's not the Britishness of the passport, tbf. Anyone having any kind of worth or wealth is now a target for extortion or kidnap in Ven. Lived there for a few years during and after Chavez; for a while things were improving despite the US action - but after his death things have really gone to shit. I spent 24 hours disappeared in a bar cellar having lumps knocked out of me by a police squad as they sought money or drugs. They eventually let me go as they were eventually convinced I didn't have access to either - presumably because they'd checked the system and could see where I was working. Wife wasn't best pleased when I got back to the flat, made me wish I was still with the cops. 2 Quote

One of the better South American countries to visit TBH. Since Chavez and his cronies plundered the country and wiped out it's middle class it's descended into Hell. I was last there just before full sanctions were imposed in late 2018. Met some guys I had sailed with previously and they didn't get regularly paid and were on ships that were falling apart around them. Thread drift I know but it's now a country I wouldn't visit as a tourist too. 2 1 Quote

All of our friends have left for Miami or other Latin countries, it's become really unsafe...and that's saying something given we also lived in Cali, Colombia for a while 2 Quote

RideWithStyles Posted February 25 Posted February 25 (edited) That’s rough Maws…. Why blackhole sun? Only difference would have been an chance of potential double chance of money with one swift bag to their eyes… Anyway back to the general: I have issues with a few other EU states let alone non. as with any EU state let along anyother- Yes aslong as you bring money, lots to make it bare-able … if I was to be stereotypical: I don’t think anyone likes people with the British passport, most of the ones with one I know I don’t and I have one…..
