Hairsy Posted yesterday at 07:05 Posted yesterday at 07:05 (edited) Carrying a D Lock Backstory is that a good friend of mine was knocked off his GS a few months ago. After the 3rd party insurance payout he bought a new one. He rode it home from the dealer and to work the next day - and it was stolen. Thieves went through his chain with an angle grinder and then lifted the bike due to other locks. The next day he rode his rubbish old winter bike in and when he arrived he was greeted with this on the floor - they'd been back the next day and nicked someone else's bike: So, with that in mind, I'm motivated to up my game on security. I'm tempted to go for the Hiplok DX1000 which wins the angle grinder test. I sometimes travel with luggage but not always. I'd really like a Hiplok to be always mounted to the bike somewhere so that I always have it with me. That way there's half a chance I'll always use it. But I don't really want it to be simply strapped on top of the pillion seat. So does anyone have any ideas for how to mount a D lock to a bike that's aesthetically pleasing but secure? I'd like it mounted in a way that doesn't cause it to vibrate and wear away paintwork etc. I'm sure I saw reference to someone mounting one on the tail but I can't find it now (I have the original ugly tail so there's plenty of area - I just can't figure out a good way to do it. Tinkicker Posted yesterday at 09:10 Posted yesterday at 09:10 Once upon a time you could buy an adjustable mount that fitted behind the numberplate. Dunno if that is still the case Quote

S-Westerly Posted yesterday at 11:15 Posted yesterday at 11:15 I've got one of these and use it. I either carry it in a pannier or if I'm not using them a backpack. There's nowhere on my bike I'd be happy to hang it off. Quote
Popular Post Fiddlesticks Posted yesterday at 11:22 Popular Post Posted yesterday at 11:22 I just wish people with battery powered angle grinders would stick to their intended use - cutting down Ulez cameras. 2 8 Quote
onesea Posted yesterday at 12:03 Posted yesterday at 12:03 I cannot help with security, I don't use any. However my bike is hidden in garages at work and home. Just alarming as you are quite close to me... Can you leave a lock at work to save carrying it round every day? Quote

My friend's theft was many miles from us - however I know that there was a bike theft from Mudeford Quay a couple of weeks ago so we're not safe around here. When I take luggage with me, there isn't an issue. I have a selection of devices that I can take with me (and they all get used at home!). It's more for the 'popping out' scenario. Sometimes I just like using the bike for a local journey instead of the car, or just going out for a ride for the sheer hell of it and then I end up popping in somewhere. That's where it would be great to always have a serious D lock with me. The other thing I'm considering is the Roadlok. It's had great reviews from John Millbank, who I trust. The downside is that it's somewhat model specific - and relatively expensive. I have no plans to change bike but it's a consideration and I'd like my security to transfer. I suspect that D lock mount thing that I'm trying to remember is the same thing that Tinkicker recalls. I'll keep thinking ... 1 Quote

Simon Davey Posted yesterday at 20:04 Posted yesterday at 20:04 @Hairsy That Roadlok looks absolutely brilliant. Simply carry the key and locking bolt with you. Roadlok UK Store | Shop Roadlok UK 1 Quote

Fish Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago The roadlocks are a superb idea, but doesn't really stop them from picking up the bike and sticking it in a van. 1 Quote
