hi there, have been riding a few months now just using my dads roof helmet. Im looking to invest in my own, two helmets that have taklen my fancy are the simpson bandit and the simpson street bandit. i have been looking on various websites and it is evident that they are not UK legal however are in the USA. i believe this is down to them not meeting UK safety standards, do you think the requirements it lack are life endangering as to speak? does anyone own one and use it on UK roads also would investing in one be a wise descision or not?

any informatiion appreciated, cheers, Will

I have tried to look into this and from what I can find out from the manufacturer is the Stig's style Simpson is not suitable for biking as it is designed for car racing where the impact is different. They are also flame proof whereas ours don't need to be.

And the poor peripheral vision would drive me mad.

Have you had a look at the Caberg Trip? Looks pretty similar. If they havent been approved as safe for uk roads then i wouldnt fancy coming off with one on. Remember that in america it isnt a legal requirement to wear helmets at all, so i dont know what you mean by the fact that they meet standards there. Personally i wouldnt touch one with a ten foot barge pole if they arent approved. If you're gona wear a helmet, you might as well wear one that does the job.

it is because of the visor size, we have bigger regulation size, but there are two simpson helmets you can have legally, i know this cos i bought the ex one a few years back and i have to say it was veeery nice, £350 it cost me and i tried it once, quietest helmet ever and velour lining which meant it was really cumfy just unfortunate it was wrong size for me.

the street bandit is legal here (used to be double check me) ....... 5th one down and i am positive that is the one i bought

Not true, in many States it is compulsory. Others have repealled the law due to there being no effect on injuries/fatalities.

Yes some are illegal due to the visor size but as said they responded to the demand and have a couple which do meet our standards.

If you like the look and want to save a bit of money the craft lids are an option also.

Isnt there an issue with your insurance as in if you have an accident and are using non standerd equipment ?
