  2. i had a big crash 4 years back i ended up going head on in to a tree also along the way i removed two solid concrete bollards out of the ground with my legs!!!! never felt a thing till about 20 mins after the accident i have miss placed the photos of my helmet but it was a right mess!!! when adrenalin and fear kick in you dont feel anything!!
  3. was good to meet everyone today and a fab ride well led too after i left you lot i got about 10 miles from hawes and it was dry then the sun peeked out at thirsk all the way to wetwang (about 30 miles from home )
  4. a haynes will have all the wiring diagrams you need and more a lot of people use the Trail Tech dash and they are supposed to work well
  5. considering i am the same age as you!!!!
  6. i will meet up at skipton tomorrow
  7. to be fair a mechanic will do it a lot quicker id say an hour and half tops i take my time and strip everything and check alsorts whilst im in the area plus balancing can take a fair bit of time a mechanic will probably charge a set amount for that and for them time is money so will just do the job and get out if you like!!!
  8. for me stripping cleaning reasemble about 3-4 hours taking my time and getting everything spotless that would be all the carbs though and all the float hights set too plus balanced up and plugs pulled cleaned and re gapped if i suspect plugs i just pull them and change them the only real way to check a plug is to pull it out put it in the plug lead and hold it against the engine and turn it over watching for a spark but use insulated pliers to hold it!!! although it is fun to watch others get a shock
  9. i wouldnt start digging too deep just yet i recon it is just a fueling issue
  10. sounds like there is two overflows then one for two carbs yeah cant do no harm giving it a little tap the float bowl is at the bottom of the car there should be some drain screws on the bottom of each one if it does free it they will still need a strip and clean at some point but its still not explaining why its running on 3 cylinders!!! No1 carb could just be gummed up or even blocked with something which is blocking the jets and making the float stick!!
  11. well i would certainly say its running on three then is it the same carb thats leaking do you know ? or is there just one overflow pipe that all the carbs connect to
  12. an overflowing carb doesnt mean it will run rough it can run ok as the cylinder will only use what it needs the float works by letting a certain amount of fuel in then stopping the flow till the level drops then opens up again think of it like a toilet!!!! the cistern allows so much water in till the ball cock stops the flow if you hold the ball cock down then the excess runs out your overflow if you can reach the carbs tap them lightly with the end of a screwdriver this is usually enough to release the stuck float you have seen the size of my tool chest!!!!
  13. oh also the unburnt fuel will come out of the exhaust and ignite and burn away the only real give away of it running on one less cylinder/missfiring is listening to it and pulling the plugs some bikes run hotter on the two center pots then on the two outer due to the outer having more surface area closer to cooler air but they are fueled for this to compensate
  14. first of all how is the bike running ? is it running as normal ? or sounding rough ? if its rough then it could be running on three cylinders secondly for the leak it sounds like one of the floats in the carb has stuck open allowing the carb to overflow which is where the fuel is coming from (the overflow) thirdly if you was a bit closer you could have got it to me and i could have stripped it down and probably sorted it in a few hours!!!
  15. whats up with it mate ? send us a pm
  16. Why? Surely there's nothing wrong with filming (and posting) video shot in a public area? it can be used as evidence against you
  17. you should have asked at any bike/clothing shop as most of the assistants are bikers and are more then happy to help (usually)
  18. sounds like the side stand switch was stuck now you have it moving again stick some grease on it not WD40 as WD40 washes grease out and it will start to stick again
  19. i would just take a bit off the top and a little more off the sides as suggested above!! or learn to balance
  20. if its your second oil change there would be no need to flush it in fact i wouldnt even bother flushing any engine!!! aarghh.... NO don't use them, i did once.... and i blew my engine within 5 minutes the addatives thin the oil so it runs down through the drain channels easier. trouble, this happens pretty quickly and it you give the bike too much revs, you run the serious risk of engine seizure. i managed to blow a honda maggot (usually unburstable engines!). seized a piston, snapped a con rod and punctured the engine casing. the white oil smoke plume could be seen for miles just warm the engine and drain as normal. if you change the filter at the same time you'll of replaced ~98% of the oil anyway. when manufacturers recomend oil change intervals, this is taken into account so as long as you stick with regular oil changes and do it properly with a new filter each time, there is no need to do anything else. again these additives do more harm then good stay well away from them just do the oil and filter as mentioned above
  21. i might possibly be at skipton too yet i will let you know before sunday
