  1. Yesterday. Went to see my folks, only 20 mins each direction and being fed up with the weather, I decided it would have to be the bike on wet country roads. Flippin eck, despite the wet, I was telling myself that a 236kg bike with 100kg Simon on top had enough weight to produce some good traction. Still with a nervous wobble here and there, I was putting it nicely onto those pothole strewn corners and starting to get pretty confident.. Until I round a bend and on that bend is a proper flood! Strewth, I actually kept my head, took into account that I was travelling at a sensible speed, brakes on whilst remembering I was still leaning and went straight through the water. Huge splash over the fairing and me, and luckily nothing into the air ducts. Carried on rather pleased that I'd handled the situation and so, still upright. Turns out my waterproof trousers and jacket kept me dry and warm. Didn't have much time, but on the way home I realised I was was sitting up as straight as possible and that was half my trouble with my handling, I started to relax and bend my elbows, which I could immediately feel gave me better cornering control. Need to get a panel clip from Halfords later, then I might go for another ride tonight.
  2. Thousands of miles, several bikes, and 40 years later, I had no Idea about counter steering until now
  3. Watching the video, there is no argument.
  4. That's a good idea, I've been looking already. I've had bikes my whole life, but after a 23 year break, and nothing but wet roads, I'm not feeling it. Came home buzzing like a 10 year old though.
  5. One hour ride per month for the last three months, and I'm still a bit wobbly. This is mostly fear of the wet greasy country roads.
  6. Finally, over a month later and I gave up waiting for the dry weather. With the spoiler in the revised position, as suggested, it makes quite a difference. It's not amazing, but for less than £20 I I'm really pleased with it. Thanks for the advice good people.
  7. Welcome, hope it goes well.
  8. Can you rest your feet up on them?
  9. Looking good! It'll take a good few rides to feel settled. I'm literally sobbing, it rains every time I plan a ride.
  10. I had to check myself then... https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/vehicle-markings under the Projections Markers sub heading End marker Both required when load or equipment (eg crane jib) overhangs front or rear by more than two metres
  11. Yes, options were something like 1.3 metres, or 2.2. It was the longer option, which surprised me.
  12. I've never been to the IOM, but I imagine camping is probably the way to go.
  13. Ok, welcome to the forum. Good luck with your quest....
  14. Phew Although, not looking at the highway code for 40 years is pretty shameful...
  15. It's a little interactive, I've just done the first quiz, managed 17/20, and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of questions. Being tested is great to see how much I don't know, such as which length of overhang is acceptable before I have display overhang signs on my lorry. I got this wrong....
  16. Is that aimed at anyone in particular, or just the general driving/pedestrian public who spend so much time looking at their phones? As it happens, I just used that link that Fullcreenaging put up, downloaded the Highway Code app.
  17. Hmmmmm, I'm feeling like the odd one out. I last read any part of the highway code in 1984, when I passed my driving test, although I'm aware of the courtesy to pedestrians thing. Thanks for the link @fullscreenaging
  18. Good work, I admire your dedication. Love that classic shape.
  19. Wow, finding those codes have some long odds. I reckon Yamaha probably wouldn't know either....
