  1. Your rings and valve seals could be shot causing you to burn the oil...which would mean its time to go, the bike that is .....not worth the repair....
  2. You need a compression tester...they are not expensive.....you remove the plug....push or screww the compression tester into the plug hole and turn it over....obviously if its the push in type you will probabaly need someone to help.....you then check the reading against what it should be... Here is a video
  3. If the voltage went up to 14V when revved and the lights on then it is charging....it wont charge at tickover... here is a good article to read on carbs http://www.classicfordmag.co.uk/files/2011/07/CLF166.bike_.pdf‎ ...I still think you have a jet blockage or dirt in the float bowls... and here is a video showing how bike carbs work http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=uMAKyTvjqaQ Thanks for the info. A friend of mine who know electrics said that the voltage should be constant not wavering and shouldn't be as low as 12v at tick over which led him to believe the regulator was faulty. His thinking was yes the battery is charging but at lower revs the regulator is not supplying the bike a high enough or constant voltage. Do you have a car....go check that the same way....it will be roughly the same...

  6. There is plenty of information out there on the internet that can help you with working on bikes etc...Stripping carbs requires minimal tools, usually just a couple of spanners, pair of pliers and screwdrivers... The hardest part is balancing the carbs...I have a carbs balancing kit which you are welcome to borrow if you are near enough but if not they are not that dear to buy... until you have a go you will never learn...

  13. The point about taking parts in is that paint fades over time and although a paint code is ok for something relatively new it's better if they have something from the car or bike so they can try to match the current colour.

  18. Can you take photo's of the caliper...what's wrong with it? looks like someone has tried to work on it before and made a real mess, the piston is scored and a bit rusty, the pin is bent, the seal, well there wasn't one and my local guy says it is a bit 'floppy'. the pads point outwards at the front so only the back of them actually hits the disc. so we think it will be best to get another one. Right....all the piston does is support the seal and therefore can be polished...pins can be replaced/straightened...seal would need replacing anyway..where the pads sit obviously needs cleaning up possibly with a soft file... All of these things can be put right... Try to fix and learn at the same time...you've got access to lots of experience and advice on this forum....use it..
  19. If its the hydraulic one you could try phoning round your local Car elec suppliuers and asking if they have the Morris Minor or Ford Escort Mk1.....the MM one would certainly fit...local scrap yard...

  22. yep i agree it would of but when bike is under 4 months old and under warranty get new one and have it sorted by dealer when out of warranty then yep gaffer tape all the way......lol On a serious note it is incredible that this part should have failed so soon....just goes to demonstrate the lack of build quality in these machines...
