This maybe would be better on my trailer thread, that is if I could be bothered to look for it 😁

After a total failure of the hinges in the trailer, I should have predicted that they weren't strong enough for the new purpose.

With just over 1mm thickness this have shown that was far being strong enough.

Searched the market without any luck in finding a suitable hinge that would fit the purpose.

The requirements are that when fully closed there is a big enough gap for the fixings.

So I had to design and manufacture them

    These are the materials used:

    35X2mm SS bar

    Ø6mm rod

Ø10m OD tube with 2mm wall

These are a few of the steps I have

Almost finished, just need securing the axle and make the holes for the bolts and revites

Were you using flux cored wire on those? It looks like you've got very little fusion on a couple of those eyes - I'd be concerned that they might pop off.

It's 'Autumn Gold' I'll have you know 😜 and is beloved by Mrs Mickly - so that's the colour of my shed & fence panels down one side of he garden.

This was supposed to be "mid oak" or something.

I tried exo creosote but it was absolute guff - I would have preferred something quite a bit darker.

Or spend a bit more time searching for the one that you lost, it's got to be there somewhere :-)

Stuff like that goes down a black hole, only to turn up on the other side of the garage years later.

Just think of it as having a spare... somewhere.

There is not enough power generation to meet our current needs never mind the huge increase electric vehicles will bring.

    Really, there is.

2020 generation capacity = 682.58 TWh, of which 298 TWh was green (hydro, solar, wind, biomass).

    2020 consumption = 310 TWh.

Total extra power requirements for all ICE cars to be replaced by EV = 140.4 TWh - this includes all power losses such as charging etc.

The caveat is abnormal power demands such as enexpected freak weather events as mentioned previously.

Data is available @ National Statistics - Digest of UK Energy Statistics (DUKES).

  5. Yesterday I followed what I presume was the GS owners club for a few miles.

Total number of shoulder checks? Zero. Times indicators were used? Zero. Waft of overbearing middle-aged smugness? Off the funking scale.

Not sure if you heard the news @Six30

Fossil fuel engines are to be banned from 2030. Carmakers (and motorbike) are bringing all electric vehicles forward to 2025.

Don't expect to have petrol available much longer than that.

That's only the sale of ICE only vehicles, hybrids that use ICE will still be allowed until 2050.

For the UK to have the replacement electric car programme  they will have to generate nearly 3 times total current power generation ...

    Coal mine anyone ...

Not so, there is ample capacity in UK power generation to allow all cars in the UK to be electric. The problem would come if there was a "beast from the east" scenario - the extra power demands from a severe and prolonged cold snap would mean the UK would be able to meet the combined demand for vehicles and the extra needed for heating homes etc.

I wouldn't mind giving an electric bike a go though.
