put it in gear, hold clutch in, ignition on, push like hell till you're going as fast as you can, drop clutch! this might turn engine over, it might even start. failing that it's probably a strip down job.

I think it's the school's fault! my son decided he wanted to do his, he'd never been on a bike apart from the odd pillion with me. I sat him on my bike, on the stand, and showed him where all the controls are and explained what they did. Then sent him off to the school on a saturday morning, he came back with his CBT certificate!. He said he struggled, for maybe the first hour, but the instructors were really patient and friendly and then it just clicked. I'd try another school!

restricted bikes often have washers in the carbs! remember! if you deristrict you are illegal! your insurance is invalid etc etc. it's really not worth it! I'm pretty sure yours won't be restricted but just built/designed to be the power that it is.

most 4 stroke 125's are built to meet the laws so therefore are not restricted but are designed to be 12/14 bhp. The marauder is a cruiser type bike I think? I'd be very surprised if it's restricted! You might gain a few mph with a different plug, different air filter, different exhaust etc. It's really not the worth the effort or expense though! I would guess that the throttle cable is getting trapped/pulled when you turn the bars. you need to reposition/pull a bit of slack up.

an aftermarket exhaust is 1 that you buy to replace the standard exhaust, usually louder. If yours has the standard exhaust and the banging/popping is bad then I would think there is something not quite right, with the fueling, however, I have no experience of those particular bikes.

It's called engine braking or overun! Some bikes tend to make funny noises when you do this, especially those with aftermarket exhausts. Your fueling is probably slightly out! What sort of bike is it?
