you can do some tests without the battery! put the meter on the resistance setting, (ohms), touch the leads together it should read zero and or buzz. put 1 lead on a good earth on the bike frame, put other meter lead on 1 of the battery leads, earth lead should be very low resistance or buzz again. other lead should be very high resistance. if it isn't you've got a short. waggle lamps cables etc till short goes away, sorted! I will check this thread on sat from sue's and come and have a look if you're still struggling

stick with standard sizes! just try a different manufacturer although, to be honest, it won't make much difference on a ybr

I'm at sue's this weekend! might have a spare hour or so saturday afternoon, will bring my meter with me, let me know how you're getting on.

presuming you have a meter: first check that the earth lead is actually connected to earth, should be very low resistance. then check the other lead to earth, should be very high resistance. I would then go round all visible wiring/connections/lamps etc and look for obvious problems, corrosion etc. if you have a fault showing on the meter then when you disturb the problem the fault will go away! it's very difficult to tell someone how to do it good luck!

have you got a multi meter? see if there's a short to earth, 1 of the battery leads should be connected to earth the other shouldn't. if there's no alarm etc fitted then something else is draining the battery. probably something shorted to earth that shouldn't be! if you leave the new, fully charged battery connected for long it will drain that too

yes there is plenty of stuff that will drain the battery! Has it got alarm? immobiliser? you need to find the fault brfore using new battery or you'll fry that as well!

( good chippy by the level crossing) A good ride and good photo opportunity is: from dollgellau, follow coast road, other side of estuary from barmouth, signed tywyn. past fairbourne and tonfanau. As you come into tywyn stop at honey ice cream factory( halo foods) best ice creams in the world!!! no sugar, just honey! then follow road round to aberdyfi and machynleth, back to dollgellau over dynas, divert left and have a look at tal y lyn too, top road! wherever you go enjoy!
