    as said above doesn't necassarily mean head gasket has gone could just be condensation etc causing moisture which then shows up in the oil

    yes you've answered your own question, top it up, charge it up then turn charger off! by an optimate! or just re-charge the day before you want to use it. repeated over charging/prolonged charging may well have fried your battery. optimates turn themselves on and off.

    just wear whatever you're most comfortable in! with lots of spares if it does get too hot/too cold. when i toured spain i wore textile trousers and leather jacket. was fine on the bike but damn hot when we stopped always try to stop in shade and drink lots of water.
