  1. Deleted. It appears I may have incurred the wrath of the organisers, by suggesting that people keep checking their facebook page.
  2. This is not a repat, it is to show support for what is done at repats and of course support for the troops who are doing their jobs. Next repat is tomorrow at approx 1330hrs.
  3. alostmind, I feel for you after all that snow, but in the warped, twisted mind that I have I couldn't help thinking well, at least you were right. Oh and F**k it you were right there too.
  4. I have bought two of my last three pairs of boots at J&S. I currently have Puma Brutale, goretex lined and for £112 Always try boots and leathers on, sizes are just numbers. I have never worn above size 9 boots but am wearing 11's now, and I think I'm outside the still growing age bracket.
  5. I think most in pairs or small groups (3/4) but many on their own. IMO more than 4 in a group would not work but that is just me. The website is now active http://rblr1000.co.uk/ The routes are on there as are links for sat nav downloads. There is also a Q&A page.
  6. The event in the OP does as it is a fund raiser for The Poppy Appeal (£33,803 last year), and is on a set date. The plan last year was to also set a world record by having over 153 complete the ride, sadly the colonials got wind and upped the anti to just over 400. 187 did finish the ride which is a 'rest of the world' record. The beauty of doing this event is that the organisation is done for you, as is a route plan that will cover 1000 miles, your speedo reading is not proof enough Why Last year I rode with two Pan Europeans they recorded about 1150 miles, my Dragstar recorded 1008 miles the actual certified mileage for our route 1042 miles, that's why. You can do a SS1000 anywhere in the world, to be certified you need a paper trail (usually petrol receipts & log & start/end mileages with independent witnesses) Take a look on the IBA website http://www.ironbuttuk.org/index.html Pete West may be the best one to contact, he rides a bit, did a BunBurner GOLD (1,500 miles in 24 hours) last year. Hope that covers a few questions.
  7. Yep, and I did. I'm saving that for an End to End ride.
  8. Yes, subject to authentication (paper trail). I took Scotland anti-clockwise last year, may go clockwise this. After 500miles you can't feel anything
  9. Saddlesore 1000. Take a look at the UK ride rules http://www.ironbuttuk.org/uk_rides.html
  10. No, but there are other Ironbutt events that spread over 24hrs. Sadly you must do a SS1000 first. If you start to feel drowsy you stop take a break, simples. I should have a bike by then, I will be doing it again. Vicki if the bike has a pillion seat you will be welcome. Also get as many miles as you can done in the first 12hrs. Not as I did last year, had far too many leisurely meal breaks, still done it in 23.5hrs. But it is not a race, in fact if you do it in under 17hrs you will not be certified as you would have been speeding.
  11. Didn't understand the (need for the) question ! A no brainer, unless you like the retro look.
  12. Started going downhill after William Hartnell regenerated.
  13. The CG should be up yo it as long as you keep on top of the maintanance. I did a once a week trip Bristol to Oxford and once I passed my test even took it along the M4. This was the older CG with drum brakes on an R plate.

    Stuck flywheel

Thanks guys, I will pass this all on to the guy who is doing the job. In fairness he has been at it for two weeks now and I have never seen him stuck before. He is a one man band back street (middle of nowhere industrial unit) independant, but he does know what he is doing, he did ring a Yamaha dealer who gave the impression that I should be happy that it made it to that sort of mileage. And I wanted to keep it to do 100k on the same bike Looking like a new bike for me. And plenty of good bits to sell of a 1100 Dragstar Custom, to help fund it.

    Stuck flywheel

I have to replace my starter clutch on the Draggie, but the flywheel refuses to budge. It has been heated, frozen and the puller left on overnight but it still refuses to budge. The bike has only done 57,000 miles and the parts are going to cost some £500+, but is a 'T' plate so unless it comes off the bike will be scrapped as a replacement lump is financially unviable due to no knowledge of its history(frying pan/fire), and I will be looking for a replacement bike. I am one pissed off cookie. Please anyone got any ideas ?
  16. Got some, didn't use last winter as it didn't really get that cold. If used with heated grips you will find you will ride with thin summer gloves all year round.
  17. Don't be sorry Jin, this is the place to get it out. I am getting myself buried in making arrangements for events over the next 3 years, kinda takes my mind off the other shite thats affecting my life but as I have no influence over those theres nowt I can do about them. Live the life you have left.
  18. Sorry for resurrection an old topic but f**k IT. Had a great time at a party Sat night. Went to leave on Sunday and go to meet Matt in Gloucester and the bike wouldn't start. Starter motor spins OK so it looks like it's the starter clutch. f**k IT. Oh yes and f**king Xmas is round the corner, I hate f**king Xmas Bah Humbug.
  19. Down Hatherley, so not too far from Cheltenham.
  20. I'm going to be in your neck of the woods Saturday evening/Sunday morning so if your up for a coffee on Sunday, let me know.
  21. The Severn Bridge (2nd) was a tad blusterly at 0600 this morning, the worst thing was the spray, down to 60mph. Once past a couple of HGV's it wasn't so bad and I could up the tempo a little.
  22. Not got any choice, the draggie only has a sidestand.
  23. You just need to ride smooooooooth, no sudden anything.
  24. Commute South Wales to Bristol whatever the weather, Skin is waterproof. I do snow too ! http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a189/MMadmac/Image009_edited.jpg The bike at work http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a189/MMadmac/Image010_edited.jpg Home and parked up view from garage
  25. Good for you Matt, and a nice gesture by HG Cheltenham. When the time comes I will make sure they get a mention.
