  1. Visit your GP. Could be nothing but unless we have a GP as a member who will give advice without seeing you, that is the best option. It certianly doesn't sound right to me, not after 2 1/2 weeks.
  2. Not a bike thing but there is a parade in Mirfield W. Yorks starting at 2pm. Aims to be the largest outside of London, splashed over TV and papers.

  4. Clearly an SFA thing then. As much as I wear my poppy with pride, I would never have a pop at someone who doesn't. I wear one all year round and am often asked why . I do remember last year while selling Poppys on the street in Newport a gent came up to our table and peeled of a nice crisp £20 then attempted to push it into a tin, he then tried several others before I realised that he wasn't having trouble getting one note into several tins. He was in fact having no trouble putting it in, he must have donated some £120 at least. And he just walked away without a poppy.
  5. "The Legion never insists that the poppy be worn or insists that others allow it to be worn," said Mr Simpkins. "We are grateful when people wear it as a sign of respect, but the decision must be a free one - after all, the poppy represents sacrifices made in the cause of our freedoms." I'm pretty sure RBLS would have the same policy. Saddened a little that your club feel that it can't wear the Poppy. Without wanting to start a heated debate, if this is a sectarian thing then it is being used as a political football. That said Like Chris Simkins says no one can or indeed should be forced to wear the Poppy, I am also sure your clubs generous donation was gratefully received. The Poppy does tend to be represented as a British thing, but was orginally an American womans idea, which was taken up by a French woman in and then The British Legion in 1921. I felt priviledged to meet WW2 Vet's when I attended the first Royal British Legion Parade in Phoenix Park in Dublin a few years ago and to be allowed to see the many battle honours won by Irish Regiments in both World wars.

  7. f**ked if I know ! How 'kin old do you think I am ? Joking aside, it is because of the importance of the 90th. And not something that would be done on a regular basis. And it makes no difference to me either, I think that it is a shame but that's life.
  8. Because this year is the 90th anniversary of the creation of The British Legion in 1921, granted a Royal Charter in 1971 on its 50th anniversary thus becoming The Royal British Legion.
  9. Official RBL response. http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/about-u ... -poppy-ban A dignified response
  10. No, that is in fact worse. The British Oylimpic committee must have approved this. I for one would strip him of his Knighthood for disrespecting those who served on this ship.
  11. Dear Sepp, Look mate it's been 93 years and 66 years, that's a hell of a long time to hold a grudge ! Oops OK I forgot 45 years ago.
  12. You could give this a try http://www.nikwax.com/en-gb/activity/in ... OTORBIKING
  13. Ref the Rukka Arma-S Jacket, just googled it. It appears to have a lot of top end tech stuff in its manufacture ie gortex and the waterproof closure. But I would think that the CE approval for PPE would be the thing that would justify the cost. Few if any other motorcycle clothing will have this, this is the only one I know of and I am sure the others would be shouting it from the rooftops if they did. that said I will not pay more for my coat than I did for my bike
  14. There you go then. Got to be worth giving it a go. Wish I could have done that in my day.

  16. Nat, I am guessing it was the VSO who came to see you. They should be able to give you some ideas on how to raise money for this.

    Poppy Appeal

Rats, As bigsister says The Legion will help all who have served for over 7 days and their dependance. H4H a worthy charity as it is will only help those injured since 9/11, and as they were set up to raise funds for the building of a swimming pool they are somewhat limited as to what they can do. The Legions Battleback centres are a joint venture, H4H provides the capital for the buildings and infrastructure and the Legion then funds the staffing and the future running costs. Afghan Heros can only help those involved in Iraq/Afghan conflicts. Vets in need from NI, Bosnia, Gulf 1/2, Falklands, Korea, Seuz etc cannot be helped by them. The Legion has been around for 90 years and will still be in another 90 helping those in need injured or needy some other way and from whatever era they served. Glad to be able to let you know a bit about The Legion. Royal British Legion Scotland is slightly different in that you must be resident in Scotland to be helped (its a historical thing) but the two are in the throes of joining together.

    Poppy Appeal

I quite agree. May I make one small point. The money raised by The Poppy Appeal is not just for those of the World Wars but for all Servicemen and Women and their dependants for life. There has only been one year since the end of WW2 that no serviceman has been killed on duty. The RBL spend £72 million a year helping in many ways, that may be as simple as getting a war widows front door repainted or helping a former serviceman get his disabled status back after it had been withdrawn because he had an artificial leg fitted to replace the one lost in Afghanstain when his vehicle was blown up. Why are they selling poppies, mummy? Selling poppies in town today. The poppies, child are flowers of love for the men who marched away. But, why have they chosen a poppy, mummy? Why not a beautiful rose? Because, my child, men fought and died in the fields where the poppies grow. But why are the poppies so red, mummy? Why are the poppies so red? ... Red is the colour of blood, my child the blood our soldiers shed. The heart of the poppy is black, mummy, why does it have to be black? Black, my child, is the symbol of grief for the men who never came back. But, why mummy, are you crying so? Your tears are giving you pain. My tears are my fears for you my child for the world is forgetting again.......
