  1. Another question, I understand that zinc is highly toxic . What safety precautions do you take especially during the buffing and polishing stages ? I believe Ed China wore a respirator to drill a zinc plated chassis on a Morgan .
  2. Ya gotta love the 15mm copper pipe in the radiator circuit....you didn't find this on Ichiban Moto, by any chance? In all fairness to the guy he does get about a bit so the thing presumably functions. Or maybe the stickers went on when it was an Enfield.

    Fork Seals

Correct. However, I've always believed that replacing fork seals without replacing the upper and lower bushes is a wasted opportunity.
  4. Ok , I've had another look and my oil pump is also driven off the clutch. I think I'll give it a miss and just start it . The feed to the camshafts is by external tubes on an ER5 and I know that they ate clean and clear .
  5. Alright, alright. Saturday then , rain or no rain .
  6. Ya gotta love the 15mm copper pipe in the radiator circuit....you didn't find this on Ichiban Moto, by any chance? Spotted at Ardingly Bike Show apparently. At least the builder can weld And WTF is all that rope about ?
  7. Remember Unlucky Alf ?
  8. This appeared recently on the ER5 forum. What a bloody mess ( ER5 engine in an Enfield )
  9. I didn't, in fact I've been trying to work out what you mean by this . The oil pump is deep within the engine and will not turn independently of the crank shaft . I dont think you can get near it unless you remove the sump plate .Do you mean spin the engine with the plugs out ? I did give the cam shafts a good squirt with the oil can during assembly.
  10. Anything's possible but if you want it to just bolt in then I very much doubt it will fit . The Super Dream engine is a stressed member that forms part of the bikes structure whereas the Rebel uses a cradle frame .
  11. Ok, this Saturday definitely, unless its raining .
  12. Might be farecla G3 compound? No, just G3 colour restorer , the same stuff I use to polish lacquered surfaces after flatting with 2500 w&d paper.
  13. I still haven't fired up this new engine. Instead I've been tidying up the bodywork . I bought a scabby mud guard off eBay complete with a fender extender and set about prepping it for paint . The fender extender was a dull grey so I sanded it with 2500 grade wet and dry then polished it with G3 . It came up surprisingly well I think. I paid £25 which isn't bad considering that a new fender extender costs that much on its own . We'll I don't want shit flung all over my new engine.
  14. Well that's really part of the charging system as opposed to the ignition system . Having said that a faulty rec/reg can cause other problems like a blown ecu , burned tacho diodes and blowing lamps .
  15. At the rate you are going it would have been cheaper to have replaced the whole bike ! I presume you have checked the cheap stuff like the lead and plug cap and the free stuff like the battery earth. The idea behind fault diagnosis is to find the fault by the cheapest route. I recommend a workshop manual and a multimeter .
  16. I searched the forum for the word Herald and found a poster called appropriately Harktheherald . Unfortunately they appear to be a one post wonder though. You could always try a PM .
  17. These bits and bobs on the net , they didn't include Ichiban Moto by any chance ? If they did then it's only fair to inform you that this is a deliberate spoof channel . I hope this is not the case. On the other hand this site seems very helpful http://www.southsandia.com/forum/website/zincplating.html
  18. Tee total for eight years now , best thing I ever did .
  19. Very good suggestion . Remove all earths and leads from the battery, sandpaper both surfaces to ensure good metal to metal contact and replace . What have you got to lose ?
  20. Petrol
  21. I would not recommend taking biscuits into the shower. You might get away with a Bahlsen if you keep it chocolate side up .
  22. As long as you don't try the Ichiban Moto method !
  23. Inspected the electrolyte level ? What century are you living in ? the one that on a ten year old bike that it may have had a replacement wet battery fitted in its life which when tipped can loose its electrolyte through its vent . Same as a sealed maintainence free battery can leak when tipped As with any fault finding you check the basics first . Sorry mate , I didn't mean to offend. I did check it , its a YTX12BS which is a fill it yourself sealed battery ( now banned ) I suppose you could substitute an old lead acid battery but it wouldn't be a great idea especially if it is not installed upright. It's most likely to have a pre sealed version nowadays .
