just googled it,crikey, there's a lot of talk about camshafts and software updates. This isn't the model with the fork failure issue is it? Good luck.

    BMW G650GS 2012 HELP

I bet this is a sensor related problem.
  3. A little friendly advice, the key to fault diagnoses is to make notes so that you do have an idea exactly what you have done. This will save a lot of time, grief and money and avoid reaching the wrong conclusions. Looking at your bike,I would pop the tank off then everything from grip to carb will be completely visible.probably just a slack cable.Good luck.
  4. Try checking the wiring from the alternator (generator) for damage . As for the delay in starting, here's a guess, have a look at your side stand cut off switch.Maybe it's gummed up with chain lube hence the delay in making a circuit. All said though, if a dealership fixed it and its not right then take it back.
  5. There are specialist restorers who can repair tanks for classic bikes that are more holes than tank but it'll cost big money.I got a tank off ebay recently for an ER5 for £40 and it was in good enough nick for me to paint the rest of the bike to match. I have had a tank silver soldered but the holes weren't as big as two inches.Afterwards I applied tank sealer but to be honest I don't know how long it lasted because I sold the bike. Good luck.

    Dead Bike!

I agree with all of the above. I've seen this scenario many times . Look at it like this if you bought a pen that didn't write you would take it straight back to the shop and get another one.A bike is no different if it doesn't work get another one. If you try to fix it you might make it worse then the dealer might try to claim that you have contributed to the problem . Good luck.
  7. Well I've read it twice and I must confess I don't have a clue what any of this is about.
  8. So why is the bulk of the content still photographs of motorcycles. This would suggest that most people interpret the word "Ride" to mean their bike as in " My ride" the phrase"Readers rides" has appeared in more than one motorcycle magazine because it has a nice ring to it. I have no intention of imposing rules on anyone I am merely highlighting that I agree with the majority of posters who have posted pictures of their motorcycles rather than videos that consist mainly or cars and trees going backwards and a pair of handlebars.
  9. Yeah, videos OF motorcycles not go pro films of horrible riding. Youtube is crammed with vids from go pros and dash cams of either bad driving, endless pieces of road or numptys crashing into things. I'm interested in motorcycles not feats of stupidity.
  10. You do realise that a "Readers ride" is referring to your BIKE itself and NOT a piece of riding however horrible.
  11. You are not a dick. You are an irresponsible ,ignorant young fool. This is not what biking is about. You and your kind do not belong in the biking community. I hope you live long enough to grow up before you bring pain and grief upon your family. You have no riding skills just arrogance. You are getting away with this stupidity because other road users are making allowances for you. Stop it ,stop it now!
  12. If you have to ride in winter you could use chain lube as weather protection. It won't look pretty and it will build up a good thick layer of filth. When summer comes you can clean it all off with liberal use of WD40.I've done this myself in the past with no ill effects. As for waxes the problem is that they are good for producing a shine but don't really build up much protection. "Wax on,wax off " as they say.
  13. Got a good one for £40,anyone want a dark blue one with a few little dents?
  14. Even if you did find a good lacquer ( I use Tool station clear and its brilliant, you can flat and polish it to a high shine)BUT if you use lacquer on wheels and forks etc. as soon as you get a few stone chips the rot will creep in. In my book there is no substitute for polished alloy. Ah , makes me long for summer. There's nothing finer than cleaning and detailing ( an American expression) your bike on a Saturday afternoon. Best way to guarantee it will piss down rain all day Sunday. ,

    ER5 fan unit

Special thanks to Tim R for mentioning GPZ 500 s ,its a perfect match! I've just bought one on ebay for £20 . By the way, I use Cradley Kawasaki's website to view parts diagrams, very helpful. Thanks again!

    ER5 fan unit

Thanks to all who responded . I'm sure all your replies were very well intended. Regrettably I must refer back to my original post where I exclusively asked for first hand practical knowledge . I'm basically trying to establish two things. One,will the whole assembly from any Kawasaki fit straight onto a 98 ER5? Two ,will the motor and fan from any Kawasaki transfer from one housing structure to another and still fit onto an ER5? If nobody reading this has actually done this then there is no need ,however well intentioned,to respond. Happy new year.

    ER5 fan unit

It would be seemingly easy to transfer the motor and fan from one housing to another but the little nut that secures the fan is a bugger to shift. Goes in from the back so the fan has to come off.

    ER5 fan unit

Part number is 59502 in both drawings but they look quite different which is why I am seeking actual first hand knowledge. Thanks anyway.

    ER5 fan unit

Does anyone know for certain wether the complete fan unit from a gpz600r will bolt straight onto a 98 ER5 ? Please no speculation or "Can't see why not" etc. just reply if you have actually done this. Many thanks.
  20. Hello all can anyone sell me an ER5 tank ? Very dark blue would be perfect but anything without dents or internal rust would be welcome. It's a 98 model but I think there all the same. Thanks
  21. Anyone want to sell me a 1998 ER5 cylinder head with four good exhaust studs (or four good threaded holes) ? I can collect within a hundred mile radius of Coventry. Thanks.
  22. Wanted, an ER5 tank any colour preferably dark blue and the front section of the exhaust system.A belly pan and a flyscreen would be useful too. I can collect within a reasonable distance of Coventry. Cheers.

    Carb balancer

I have to say that I have lost faith in my Morgan as well. I use the ubiquitous dial gauges on a blue background but I always calibrate all four on the one carb first. Can you still get Davida guages? They were of good quality build but I cannot comment on acuracy. The best tune up I ever had was with a digital balancer that only did two carbs at a time, can't remember the make but I do recall that it was made in South Africa. The bugbear with carb tuning is trying to balance the pilot air screws first without burning your hand.Have you seen"Longboy" pilot air screws available for some Mikunis ? I'm going to get some soon. Good twiddling and remember to step back and use your ears as well. .
  24. Wanted...Anyone got an unwanted bike for sale? I'm looking for something like a CB 500 twin or an ER 500 or an FT 500 Ascot (Honda) Anything rideable considered. My goal is to use it as a touring bike that's slow enough for me to actually see the scenery for a change! I live in Coventry.
