  1. And make sure It's going round the right way .
  2. Surely you just need some number plate screws , like these
  3. I've put the oil in now but I still haven't started it yet . Instead I have smartened a few things up a bit while I've still got it indoors. I fitted a second hand under tray that was in better nick than what was on it . It came with a good set of indicators which was handy because mine were flopping around and , as I discovered, full of water . I also snipped out any old wiring bodges and did everything properly with solder and heat shrink tubing. I want everything super reliable because I might be going to the outer Hebrides on it next summer.
  4. You must be mad to ride a motorbike, so don't fight it , surrender to the madness . Give it a go for forty years and then you will be able to decide if it's for you or not . " Just do it " is more than just a tee shirt that fat gamers wear when they go to sign on .
  5. Noooo ! How do I get that image out of my head ? Uuugh !
  6. It’s item 1 in the picture 4787CFC5-E95F-4366-A360-25C94379C0FF.png Oh ok , cheers for that , I thought Triumphs would have external filters . Anyway, just tighten it enough to stay put . I guess the thing is that some of us older mechanics have developed a feel for this sort of thing and only reach for a torque wrench for head bolts or camshaft journals etc.
  7. Jeez, 7000 miles? Barely out of nappies..... Crikey , I've done 12000 miles in two summers and that's only on my old ER5 .
  8. We'll it looks like he's got it pregnant , which is quite an achievement.
  9. What exactly do you mean by an oil filter bolt ? Anyway don't worry too much about torque settings, just tighten it enough so it doesn't come undone . It's not going to be subjected to any forces trying to undo it so go easy .
  10. That would have been my first choice, however before you spend any money why not try good old petrol generously applied with a soft cloth ?
  11. Rather you than me mate , good luck!

It's probably not everyone's idea of an ornament but I've got a Mikuni on my mantle piece .
  15. Just let it go , there are miserable f***ers in every walk of life and you just met one of them . I've been yelled at by some Lycra clad cyclist for not riding my bicycle in the way he thought I should . Whatever you do in life there will always be some knob head ready to give you shit , it's probably down to insecurity.
  16. How do you mean " Slot in " ? How are the wires connected ? You must have a very different system to mine , any pics ? How about fitting them and spinning the motor with a drill to bed them in ? Have you given the commutator a good polish with very fine emery paper i.e 2500 grade ?
  17. Correct, do not use WD40 , you require a lubricant and not a water dispersant. ( WD ) The internet is full of lots of things including angels , aliens , ancient giants and talking cats . You do what you believe to be right and good luck to you . Meanwhile I'll keep my chain smothered in good quality chain lube . I was thinking about using wd40 for cleaning purpose before applying lubricant, not using wd40 as lubricant Yeah, I do pretty much the same.
  18. Hello, how are you taking them out and putting them back in again so easily ? I had to solder mine . Are you replacing the whole back plate or each individual brush ? I did this job very recently and it went fine , the brushes that went in were way longer than the stubs that came out though. Let's have some pictures please.
  19. We'll that's a new one .http://www.sprocketsunlimited.com/Chainmaintenance.html Here they say do not use wd40, internet is full of various tests where o rings and x rings were immersed in wd40, for months and no damage observed, so who is laying Correct, do not use WD40 , you require a lubricant and not a water dispersant. 23. What's the attraction? It looks horrible and it hasn't got a visor ! Is this a hipster retro thing perhaps ?
  24. Still haven't fired it up yet , I've put the coolant in and I've got Friday off so as long as it isn't pissing down I'll give it a go then .
