Yeah, if there's a risk of ice I tend to avoid darkness these days. Not helped by my bike having an external temperature display which reads low - showing 1 C when I know its 4 or 5.

Having slid along the road accompanied by a shower of sparks and a GS850 for at least 50 yards and got up without a scratch , I think I'll give riding on ice in the dark a miss .

I think there is a very nice FXCDC lurking somewhere on here if your search doesn`t go well !

    🤣

    Cheers

Well I have dropped you the odd subtle hint in the past . If you were thinking of selling it would take all the stress and uncertainty out of the equation .

When I were a lad me old pa used to say that BSA stood for 'Bits Stuck Anywhere.'

Interestingly , my Father , who briefly owned a Bantam told me it stood for Bloody Sore Arse .

  4. I had a great uncle who was in the Battle of the Somme . We rarely saw him though because even in the 1960s when I was a kid he would go into another room and close the door . We were told that he had Shell Shock but from what I now know of the battle , that brief description hardly covers what these men must have seen and endured . And to still be suffering 40 years later dosen't bear thinking about .

CCA  is cold cranking amps. A higher ampage means more power is available to start the bike in cold weather

I don't think CCA is much of an issue on a four cylinder bike . On a Harley it's everything though .

  6. Perhaps I'm looking at this from a Asperger's perspective but I can't imagine anything more awkward than teaming up with a complete stranger on such a trip . What if they turn out to be a complete ar*ehole but you only find out when it's too late ?

I think it's a lottery with the Chinese stuff especially from a lie press sometimes you were lucky other times it got checked and you get stu g and the carrier who delivers slaps an admin charge on too. A lie press have cha fed it now you pay the tax on it on purchase so not the lottery it was. There is some shite sold on there but some good stuff too and can't knock alipay any issues and they pay you back  I quibble.

Big fan of buying local where I can  but also purchase from the fat East especially if the retailer is putting a massive markup on the stuff

I'm trying to work out whether this is autocorrect or sarcasm .🤔

Ali Express is the retail site for AliBaba China.  If you buy through this site you should also be hit by duty & VAT as it will be a personal import.

Well , it's interesting that you say that . I've bought loads of stuff direct from China such as my ER5 Clock Casing , Carb Repair kits and loads of other bits and bobs and I have never paid a penny in import VAT . This is because Chinese suppliers , mainly from the city of Guangzhou , post the items direct to your door . On the occasion when I tried to save a few quid by buying some Kawasaki piston rings from Japan , I got hammered for £26 Import VAT including an admin fee  . This is because the Japanese supplier used the national postal service who have an agreement with Parcel force who carry out the UK leg of the journey . So I think it all depends on whether the items pass through the greedy hands of Parcel Force and their partners in crime the HMRC .
