Having slept on it, I decided to take off the head.

All the liners were level with the top of the engine cases, no gaps at all, should they be slightly lower?

That would depend on the design of the head gasket . If the ring portions of the gasket that seal the combustion chambers are thicker than the outer section then maybe the liners are supposed to be lower than the casing . Unfortunately , this is all conjecture because although I've worked on a few water cooled engines , I've not had my hands on one where the liners are directly surrounded by coolant .

  2. That chain looks as dry as a bone . You still have to lubricate the rollers even on an O ring chain . One issue I've always had with O ring chains is that they run relatively quietly even when they are completely shagged out . The sideways bend test will often reveal shocking levels of wear on an apparently serviceable looking chain ..

  3. I disagree , the sprocket shouldn't be rock solid . Many bikes have front sprockets that allow a degree of " Float " . What I do not like about this bike is the fact that the sprocket is held on by nothing but a Circlip but I've checked the parts catalogue and this is actually CORRECT .

does this gap between block & head look right?

    this is the other side.

Worried now that it’s not seated correctly & I’ll have to take it off again.

I hate to say it but I'd be worried too . I've never built a modern Triumph but that doesn't look right to me . Are those liners fully seated ? They're not resting on a bed of Hylomar are they ?

  5. E10 fuel will only cause sensor failure if you drive past a 5G phone mast more than four times a week without having your car roof insulated free of charge while under the influence of a vaccine invented in three weeks to control people's minds into thinking that Brexit is still a great idea despite the fact that there's f**k all in the shops .

  6. Is the swarf magnetic or non magnetic ? Whatever it is I really wouldn't worry about it . Just stick some Wilko 20 50 Mineral Oil for " Older vehicles " in it and carry on . Do you think the guy in India carrying his family , two dogs and a cage full of chickens is worried by a bit of swarf ?

Comparing chalk and cheese never means very much.

I quite like the Rebel for what it is but it's not comparable to the Triumph.

I like the Rebel too . It's not trying too hard be retro . The only retro thing about it is the overall " Stance " all the rest is modern motorcycle .

    Hello Fast Bob.

the brakes are not binding in fact at moment its not got the front caliper on it was brand new but started leaking

so mechanic who fitted it  took off to replace seal,

The reason its too heavy is because im only about 5 /4 but also im getting old im 79.

i am still riding my Triumph i can get  that out  of garage ,would have liked to have PX Harley for the ninja but it wasnt to be

.i will  not be riding Harley ever again  even though its in great condition and i have spent a lot on it

I spoke to a gentleman of your seniority ( 81 in fact )  in Stratford upon Avon last year and he told me that he was considering hanging up his helmet . Until this came along .

i read these post  and have to say im a harley rider 1200 sportster i bought it because its so different

from most bikes its like a tractor that big Vtwin motor or small in harley speak,

if i take the harley and park it  up,  people who pass by will and stop and look at it ,

but if i park the Triumph up no one looks at it.

Unfortunately Harley by being different is also a very heavy bike which due  to age,  i can no longer get it out  of garage

so its going to stay there for ever, unless i can get some unsupecting  soul to buy it,.

My Triumph is fast it handles well   but its doing what it was meant to do so bland it may be,

now i have just part chopped a  a 650 kawasaki vulcan for a kawasaki Ninja 125

out of those bikes the Vulcan could be said to be bland by other people,

    but not by the Owners

Hi , I also have a 1200 Sportster . I'm surprised that you think of it as heavy to be honest . Compared to my previous bike , a GSXR 1100 , it feels really easy to maneuver . The wide , raised bars and extremely narrow plan view make it much easier to get close to the centre of gravity . Have you checked to see whether the brakes are binding ?
