    Hi

    Good evening .
  2. It might be in the way of the idle adjustment screw but that can be sorted . I've ordered a pair of carb rebuild kits that include jets , needles, gaskets and even floats and diaphragms all for the ridiculously low price of £8.07 . I haven't been disappointed yet by too good to be true Chinese stuff so let's hope this is no exception . https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383767415660
  3. Here it is . I haven't read it through but I think he lost his bottle in the end . https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=65912&start=60
  4. Does anyone remember the long thread on here where a guy stripped his Triumph down and then kind of lost interest or something and put it back together again without actually doing anything ? I'll have a dig later .
  5. Haynes Manuals are hit and miss . The ER5 one is excellent but my Sportster one is incomprehensible shite .
  6. As you know , I'm a great fan of the ER5 as you can see from my two restoration projects. If anyone wants to jump on the bandwagon you aren't going to get a complete bike much cheaper than this . https://www.facebook.com/groups/er500/permalink/3534156853366778/ Oh bollocks ! https://www.facebook.com/groups/er500/permalink/3534156853366778/ Double bollocks ! Mods please delete this ! ( It was £150 and a recent runner . It had been well messed about with but overall it looked in better condition than my current project . )

    I'm stumped

Ah , stuck rings maybe ?
  8. Thanks for the offer I may well have to take you up on that. Not sure until I get into it .... mate of mine has pointed out that I might be able to fit Triumph 955 pistons and liners and take it to 1275cc .... bloody git, now he’s planted that seed I might have to give it proper consideration. Hopefully it’s just a hone & new rings, but as you know, it could be a whole different ball game. You can have my knackered ER5 barrells to practice your cross hatching on .
  9. So what's the actual plan ? 0.5 over sized pistons and a professional rebore or maybe just new rings and a hone ? I've got a valve spring compressor and a honing tool if you want to borrow them . They're just Machine Mart stuff but they do the job .

    I'm stumped

I find an easy way to do this is spray some water on the down pipes, if one cylinder is not firing as well as other the water doesn't evaporate as quick.. Or spit on a finger and compare the sizzle or lack thereof .
  11. I can honestly say that I've no idea what this thread is about . I've tried to relate it to how I ride a bike and my mind is blank . I can only conclude that either I've been riding so long that my actions have become second nature or that Mr Beans is seriously over thinking things . What is it that you're actually trying to achieve here ? There's nobody watching or listening when you change gear so what does it matter so long as you're not damaging the bike ?

    I'm stumped

Find out which cylinder is running cold , change the plug and check the HT lead .
  13. I've never had a bike , and that includes those with twin headlights , with lights that could be described as anything better than adequate in the dark . I think it's just a case of adjusting your riding style accordingly . Better to arrive late in this life than early in the next .
  14. A blatant and rather desperate attempt to get a T.O.T.Y nomination if you ask me .
  15. I have Asperger's Syndrome but I don't regard it as a disability . It just means that I don't always feel part of the Human Race but that dosen't seem like such a bad thing these days .
  16. I'm glad you've noticed an improvement but what exactly do you believe has taken place inside your engine , fuel injection / carbs etc. to have brought this about ?
  17. No thanks . I like to keep my hand in at expressing myself verbally .
  18. Would you care to provide some specific examples of this type of insult trading . Pick any post exchange between @Six30 & @XTreme What people may be failing to understand is that the title of Twat is a much coveted accolade in the twisted lexicon of this forum .
  19. You’ll find rude is one of this forums premium qualities. They can sandwich rude into anything, it’s a skill set. Someone will be along in a minute to slate this reply, it’s part of the.. of the... umm it’s part of something, dunno what mind you... urr stress relief for the repressed? Log on, call someone a w*nker, the OP applies their finest witty repartee usually along the lines of “you’re a tw*t” Job done, everyone happy. Next topic Would you care to provide some specific examples of this type of insult trading .
  20. Not even a wave . Little shit .
  21. Oh no ! Not another " Nodding " thread to add to the billions of words wasted on the subject already .
  22. Good advice . The question of whether the tank is a reservoir or an expansion tank or both has been debated here more than once . Personally , I would go with the individual manufacturers instructions on changing the coolant , including running the engine with the cap off until no more bubbles appear and then topping up the tank afterwards . This is the procedure on my ER5 anyway . I was just a little concerned that the OP had made the common mistake of trying to fill the system via the tank only but this appears not to be the case .
  23. What ?
  24. Did you only fill the expansion tank by any chance ?
  25. Retrace every step you made when you changed the coolant . I suspect that you may have dislodged a sensor .
