Someone who wants to remain in the EU and keeps moaning about it I see. Which linguistic genius same up with that? I wonder.
-
What on earth is a remoaner? A repeat moaner? This thread has nothing to do with brexit. It's all about the government spending money it usually says it doesn't have on something we don't really need. Oh... And this isn't bike chat... Look up. It says quite clearly Non Motorbike Related.

So.. we already have a GPS system that works and it cost us nothing aside from any help given to the yanks back in the day. And more recently the EU decided they wanted their own system.. maybe this was a good idea. as a back-up in case the American system went down... I'm not really sure what the justification was, likely partially military. But.. anyway, the Uk has already spent £1.2 BILLION on this new EU system. and.. now. we are going to throw that money away and spend.. initially £100 million on a "study" to look into the feasibility of a UK GPS system.. our own little team of satellites. Followed by "several BILLION" to build and launch these satellites. (in true UK fashion this will likely end up as several TEEN billions) meanwhile.. the roads are falling apart. the railway system is a disaster and we have a lovely big aircraft carrier with no aircraft. not to mention all the social problems mostly made worse by lack of money. you couldn't make it up. http://tinyurl.com/ybsbwwwp

it reeks of catholicism. might help knowing where its placed and on what.

Im not immediately concerned about bikes made in China.. it all depends on quality control and whether the bikes are made to typical Chinese or international standards. By which i mean.. for example, is the steel used in the engine, fame, gearbox and so on of the same standard/specification that the Japanese would use.. or is it some cheap rubbish that results in a throwaway bike. do KSR demand the bikes supplied to them meet these standards... with the low final cost of individual bikes down to very low wage levels for the workers and lower costs due to mass production by an already established company. Thats what it all boils down to in my view.
-
KSR are a development and distribution company. they do not manufacture anything. given the price of the bikes they sell its fairly certain that they are produced in the far east. not only do they produce bikes badged KSR they also offer bikes for re-branding and advertise this on their Austrian website.. They are extremely secretive about the ultimate source of the bikes they supply. Though they are linked with various Chinese manufacturers particularly the owners of Benelli. amongst others. KSR also owns Brixton motorcycles who produce classically styled bikes up to 250cc. as well as the Lambretta brand and those bikes are made in Taiwan.

Calimoto, Sat nav app for bikes, worth a look
Gerontious replied to tigger004's topic in Motorbike Chat
No curvy road choice on mine.. if i want that kind of a ride then I make the route at home on the computer. easy enough. under normal routing it would never use an unclassified road.. so perhaps the improvements over the years since I got mine... arent. -
Calimoto, Sat nav app for bikes, worth a look
Gerontious replied to tigger004's topic in Motorbike Chat
With a dedicated satnav.. like the Garmin ZUMO. it would only route you down such minor roads if you have it set for 'shortest distance'. in normal circumstances it would bypass such roads and use 'B' roads as the minimum. -
cheapest I can find.. same importer that brings rukka to the UK. http://tinyurl.com/y6wmgzve google gore tex laminate motorcycle jacket for more options.
-
think about goretex.. preferably laminated, rather than a removable goretex liner and you wont go wrong.

Buy a Motobatt. AGM Battery.. about £45 for your bike.
-
I wouldn't touch the loom. just connect it directly to the battery so its always live.. just as they are on BMWs. this will allow for power out as well as somewhere to connect a battery minder/charger. and then use a socket like this: http://tinyurl.com/yc7qe9hm

Side luggage, need advice please
Gerontious replied to Ross's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
It tells you in the description. thats a fairly wide choice of manufacturers and each of them offer various styles. SW-Motech stuff is very good. it may turn out that the actual part you want isnt kept in stock here in the UK, but the UK importer will be able to order it for you, you can generally expect it to arrive in a couple of weeks. Of those its probably true that Givi/Kappa luggage will be the easiest to find used.. but if you want to buy new then any of them.. they all produce very good luggage. Personally i wouldnt worry too much about the looks of panniers. just think about them in practical terms. as it will likely turn out that you only use the panniers occasionally. for example.. the panniers for my bike only get used once or twice a year. normally for trips abroad.. or occasionally when I need to use them to carry stuff here at home. (I don't have a car) -
What do you use for navigation?
Gerontious replied to a topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Ive never experienced that. my zumo is 9 years old and routes to a destination without any issues based on whatever settings I use.. which depends on the kind of route I want to take. it only gets "interesting" if i ask it to use the shortest route.. because then it can and does often take me down fairly nadgery roads that i might usually bypass. which is more often that not great fun. -
There should be a rule on this forum that anyone who mentions THAT forum.. should be required to make a £25 donation to THIS forum.

That reminds me... I really need to buy a popcorn maker.

in dogs wind is 99% of the time due to diet.. or the fact that dogs more often than not eat very quickly and this can lead them to swallow a lot of air. you can mitigate that by reducing the size of meals. so for example all dogs are lactose intolerant.. so dairy products cause wind. as do some other food stuffs like soya and other beans plus other items that are often used as bulking agents in food. a change of diet can cause wind.. so if you were to run out of one food and switch to something different, this can cause wind. I cured it in my dog by being strict with his diet. two smaller meals per day and ignoring that 'look' when Im eating... he gets nothing from me at all aside from his normal diet.

Riding (position) lights
Gerontious replied to a topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
What I should have said was that the images were there to see on my iPad.. but on the Mac.. there was just a big gap between the two sentences. nothing at all. even invisible that showed by moving the curser across the gap. First time this has happened.. the site has worked perfectly on the Mac before this. and there hasn't been an update recently that might have changed things at this end. -

Bike camping gear
Gerontious replied to Slowlycatchymonkey's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
They cost over a £1000 (boxes plus racks plus locks) and as far as I can tell... The polish site selling them doesn't mention their volume. -

Trouble is.. 3rd party panniers are never as integrated as originals. The frames are generally ugly and often stick out much further than necessary. They might even mean the bike needs altering. Indicators moved or even replaced for instance. The RnineT was never designed to be a tourer... It's an urban toy. At best original panniers will be sufficient for a weekend away.. at a hotel. And probably very nice to look at.. Neat little suitcases perhaps. Or roughly toughty leather or canvas bags which are really just overpriced fashion statements. Probably easier for the Urban GS... As that bike practically demands decent luggage. But the standard bike? Not so much. So. The question you need to ask yourself is just how much carrying capacity you need and how much you want to change the look of your bike with... Perhaps permanent racks and possibly physical modifications. And for al that.. You might manage 25litres per side. Not much at all from Givi or 22 from hepco & Becker. Or whether it's easier to use throwovers with a top case and drybag on the pillionseat. Which means the only addition will be a top case holder.. And they're easy enough to find. -

Battery recharge
Gerontious replied to david16's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) Batteries... The most popular brand being Motobatt are as close to a deep discharge. (Deep cycle) battery as is possible to get. And are specifically designed to be used with a trickle or maintenance charger for extended periods, like a 6 month winter hiatus where the bike will have zero use, but it's still desirable to leave the alarm system fully armed. -

Not sure why you would need super lightweight titanium cutlery for a motorcycle camping trip. It's not like weight is an issue. I just raid the cutlery drawer before I go, including a knife that can slice a bread roll and cheese... Wrap them in a tea towel. With an elastic band to secure it.. And shove it in the bag with the rest of the camping gear. I've successfully carried a bodum glass cafetière and mug all over Europe without it breaking. Can't beat a proper coffee first thing. In fact that's all I take so far as cooking is concerned. I cook at home... But not on holiday. No thanks. Cooking and then the washing up... Sod that. At worst.. Maybe something for an al fresco meal from the friendly neighbourhood store. Bread Cheese, tub of salad and beer and maybe more beer. If I want a cooked meal.. There are these things called pubs and cafes. Even a chippy to prove I'm not quite the snob I aspire to be. I've been bike touring and camping for donkeys years and never once even considered cooking. The very idea!! -
looks like the owner and pillion have a severe flatulence problem.
