And so did I ! Maybe this supplier hasn't heard yet . Yes it was a dry battery with acid included in a bottle, when I was looking to buy a battery saw many supplied without acid and you have to source locally. What a faff.Checked it tonight and it reads a healthy 6.25 V. Remind never to ride it in the dark! Fitted new front indicators.

New battery arrived today along with front indicator stems, yet another part that succumbed to rust. Also new front indicators on their way. It's getting dangerously close to switching on and making it run for the first time in nearly 2 decades. Be good to see this 49 year old bike back on the road.

Yes it looked a bit odd without the bar's. I had left them off as it lives under a bench and thought the bar's would get in the way,but with a bit of manouvering fits under ok

The kickstart on the SS is badly corroded so bought a pattern part from some pit bike, looks ok IMO. Bought a used grab handle from the USA. Fitted the new chain adjusters, old ones are really scabby. Refitted footpeg and pillion pegs with new Clevis pins

If you must buy 2nd hand check the manufacturer date on the sidewall, just because its got a healthy tread depth doesn't necessarily mean they are any good, the rubber may have hardened and offer little grip.

On the flipside there are plenty of times I've been stuck behind a pair of trucks on a dual carriageway where one truck is overtaking the other going 0.1mph faster. Result two lanes of traffic built up behind them. Why doesn't the truck being overtaken see this and just lift off for a couple of seconds?

Side cover fitted ,points cleaned up, gap and timing set. Clutch cable fitted and seems to work ok. The last time I used it in 2000, the clutch slipped badly even when kicking over, now it kicks over ok and disengaged when clutch pulled in.

Happy New year to all

Ok thanks, have ordered one Will be back in touch once it's arrived.

I've had hours of "fun" sorting out tech stuff for my Mum and Dad. I'd set up an online blood test account for my Dad and Mum wanted herself adding, must have been on the phone for about an hour trying to walk her through it.

Glad you are having a go with the plating. the vendor you got the psu from should give you adjustment details as the voltage you have there is far to high. can you post the link to the device please? anything i can do to help rob B Yes I am using a 5v phone charger but can't turn it down.current is about 0.5A.In the photo I had it on the RGV battery which was a bit flat at 9v Mine has two buttons to scroll thru the display settings and two potentiometers to adjust output voltage and current. Can't get it to adjust the output on either. No instructions with it, just what was on ebay advert but it was written in Chinglish and made no sense. Might bin it and buy a proper bench power supply, around £30

Got the bar's and carb back on today. Also renewed my insurance and added the Honda to it. Roll on spring.

TBH I'm not sure on that, e.g. put your modern engine into a 40 yo bike would it still be classed as historic , probably not, but you can only ask. https://www.gov.uk/historic-vehicles Anything over 40 years old on a rolling basis that's not been substantially modified. Checking up on the TW, it only makes 11hp,about the same as a CG125.Early ones of these will be over 40 years old, buy one and ride around London only paying for insurance, no tax,mot or ulez and stick the finger up at Mr Mayor as you ride by. Daft thing is I could ride the 380 around the ulez FOC and that pours out more pollution than 10 modern bikes put together, maybe even 20, it smokes like a barstad when its opened up.

What did anyone get that was bike related? I got a wheely dolley to move the 380 around the garage. And a new 1/2 inch ratchet.

Merry Xmas. That it done, me and OH cooked full Christmas roast for 10 adults and 3 grandkids. It was bloody lovely even if I do say so myself Say down now with a bottle of Robola from Kefalonia holiday

If your gut feeling tells you the bike doesn't feel right then trust it,pull over and check it out. Last year I was riding the R1 home from work going along a twisty section of about 5 miles, then about 7 miles on the A5 which is fast and fairly straight (what did the Romans ever do for us ?).On the twisty bit went rode a quickish bend and felt the rear end twitch where it doesn't normally, put it down to the road surface and carried on.Rode along the A5 no problem, then when I turned off the rear stepped out badly so I pulled over to find the rear tyre flat as a pancake. With hindsight I should have stopped at the first hint of an issue.

Too cold and damp to be in the garage so dragged the bar's into the house, took them apart and polished up eveything. Needs new pivot bolts and switchgear screws. Chrome on the bar's is a bit pitted but good enough for now.

Finish tomorrow lunchtime then off to 2nd Jan.

Buy a classic bike, anything over 40 years old is exempt from ulez, tax and mot. What's not to like?

Ordered a side grab handle off the bay from a breakers in Iowa USA.

Chrome plating is expensive, zinc plating although less durable is cheap. Check out this site for the chroming process. http://www.themotorhood.com/themotorhood/2015/7/28/the-shining-chrome-plating-explained Guy at work had some bits done for his Dads Royal Enfield, mudguard and exhaust downpipe and it came to over £300.

After 3 weeks of nothing happening to the Honda due being ill for a week, new grandson Harry, xmas shopping and babysitting finally got a bit more done. I ordered the parts to try out the zinc plating thanks linuxrob ,wired up the regulator and hooked up to a test piece which started to fizz nicely. Just got to figure out how to adjust voltage and current (No instructions with it) . Ordered some new chain adjusters from David Silver

The R1 went through the year without any major expense. Got the RGV back on the road after a hefty engine rebuild Got the 380 back on the road after 10 years or so. Started the renovation of the SS after 18 years neglect. My 3rd grandson and 1st nephew on my side of the family were born. We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with a week in Kefalonia at a real plush hotel. We paid off our mortgage in September
