  1. Anyone taking part this year? https://www.gentlemansride.com
  2. Is that because the good folk from Sandbanks don't want any riff-raff in the neighbourhood?
  3. Fastbob is quite correct in what he says, rad cap has two valves ,one to let coolant out when it reaches a set pressure, the other smaller valve in the centre of the cap to return the coolant as the system cools down. This is to maintain a constant volume of coolant. Cars used to be like this until they put a header tank on so there is an air gap which is compressible, no need for an expansion tank.I guess these are not generally used on a bike due to space. In theory if your bike is not using any coolant, the level in the expansion tank should remain constant when checked when cold. If the level drops then you have a external leak or an internal issue such as a head gasket.
  4. Anyone going tonight? We are on holiday at Swanage for a few days and convinced Mrs we can go for a look around Poole this afternoon and there just happens to be a bike meet on this evening.

    Kneepads

My Grandad used to say rolled up newspaper works to keep the cold at bay. I guess you could fashion some papier-mache knees sliders? If you used the old method of sticking soggy newspaper around a balloon that is the same dimensions as your knee, it would work quite well I reckon.
  6. That sentence and choice of wording gave me an unusual mental image I could have done without Ha ha, yes bad turn of phrase. Let's say butt naked.
  7. If we are playing crap neighbours top trumps. A few years back went out on a winters Saturday night around 8.30, on returning passed by a house a few doors up and spotted a body laying on the grass verge. Got out the car to find a woman sparko drunk, so went to the house she was outside and knocked on the door. Bloke answered, told him what i'd found and asked for help. We get back to the woman , he looks down and says "thats my wife". We pick her up and drag her to the house. Ever since that, they were known as Mr & Mrs drunkwife. More recently about 1am i was woken up by a taxi outside and heard voices. Got up for a nightly pitstop and heard more voices nearby. Looked out the window and could hear this mumbling but couldnt see anyone, they switch our streetlights off around here. Looking a bit closer after I put on my glasses,I could see a body laying in the road, two houses up. Got dressed, went outside to find another neighbour absolutely sh!tfaced. Hammered on his front door to wake up his Mrs, she obviously thought I was her old feller as she opened the door bollock naked. Its a decent neighbourhood really
  8. Whose fence is it? If theirs, let your dog take a big dump in the middle of their garden, they will soon get the message. If yours get it repaired and send them the bill then take to court if they dont stump up. We live in a semi, our neighbours house is let out, all the tenants have been great but the landlord is pretty slack on maintainance. Last Autumn I cleaned out our guttering and saw their side was full of crap and weeds, the guttering is linked around both houses so any blockage their side will affect mine. Wrote a nice email to the letting agents asking they advise the landlord. The agents responded but the landlord ignored it, so I wrote 3 times, the last time I said if no action was taken I would contact the council. Sure enough he again ignored it, so a quick email to the council really stirred it up and the gutters were cleaned in a week.

  10. Didn't go in the end, there were some rain showers around and the 380 hasn't seen a drop of rain in over 20 years and I'm not about to start now.
  11. Is it flooding all the cylinders or just one? Quick plug check would tell. Throttle bodies balanced and set correctly relative to tps? Electrical system ok,not over or under charging? ECU? Bad earths? Valve clearances? Bit of a long shot; cam timing ok,not got a worn chain or anything? Did it start running rough just one day out the blue or was it a gradual event?
  12. Did some more work on the Honda this morning. Removed the engine side covers to paint. The engine has a small centrifuge on the end of the crank to keep the oil clean. Found a paint roller tray made an ideal wet and dry tray for flatting off the covers. Removed and measured all the cover screws, going to order new as they are all rusty and or chewed up. Took the clutch apart as last time I rode it,clutch was slipping badly, hope the springs are ok as they are unobtainable.
  13. Turns out I won't be going on the RGV, since I last rode it the puncture fairies have been calling. Oh well, it will give the 380 a run out
  14. Thought it would make people look at the thread : :

    SSSS

Super Sausage Suzuki Sunday this weekend. https://bikes.suzuki.co.uk/news/suzuki-heads-back-to-the-super-sausage-cafe-for-classic-suzuki-sunday/ Weather looks ok so will fire up the RGV.
  16. Worst I've had was about 1500 miles on Dunlop rear on my FZR 1000 Changed that to Metzeler MEZ 4 and easily got over 5000miles. Run Michelin pilot power on the R1 and get about 4000miles out of the rear.
  17. I bet it opened your eyes up to how easily bikes are missed? I have had it a few times Yes it did.I wasn't moving but just about to. I filter thru the traffic where the VFR did maybe not as fast as he did but a good reminder to have your wits about you at all times whether in car or on the bike.
  18. Me, for jumping out my skin like a frightened kitten when sat in a queue of traffic in the car,my window wound down minding my own business when a bike,VFR I think whizzed by filtering thru the traffic. Didn't hear or see it coming.

  21. The impatient git in a grey RAV4 on the A43 today. I was going straight over the A5 roundabout at Towcester, middle lane,he came hurtling past me on the 3rd lane which filters back into 2nd lane after the roundabout. Not close to me but I thought d !ckead considering he had kids in the back. Followed him to M1 roundabout, recovery truck pulled in front of him, granted it was a bit of a late move but Toyota man was on the horn. Went round the roundabout the other side of the M1,RAV overtakes truck and gives the driver the finger. RAV pulls in so I let him eat some R1 dust.
  22. We have one at work, the table it works on is less than a sheet of A4 so any object made is fairly small. we have placed work to outside specialists, a recent project was create a full size engine mock up.....it wasnt cheap. The finish on it is quite rough so not really suitable for a fairing id say. It can also be brittle if the sections are thin,we have however run some rapid protoype parts in engines before but not a structural item The detail achieveable can be quite astonishing, i have a pic at home of a minature V8 engine that we made for a long served employee as a leaving gift, will post it up when I can.
  23. Wall thickness of 3mm sounds a bit thin for a wheel spacer especially out of ally?
