  1. 2 stroke engine crank seals dont appreciate being sat for a long time. Can cause trouble starting, poor running and seizing due to weak mixture. Also depending on where the piston stopped, there may have been a direct route for condensation into the cylinder and crank below.Obviously bad news for liner (if cast iron) and bearings. Carb will need stripping and cleaning out.Fuel will have evaporated and left behind a gungy mess. Check fuel tank for rust inside. Considering its low value,i'd do the checks as previously suggested and try starting it. I'd make sure it runs and moves before investing too much in it.
  2. I collected all the parts on Tuesday evening,Phil had done a great job. Shot blasted all of it and black powder coated the stand, footpeg bracket and rear torque arm. Gave all the rest a couple of coats of etching primer the same night while it was still rust free and the weather was dry. Can't believe the difference. Took the rear dampers apart today using a modified pair of car spring clamps, worked a treat to release the clamping collets. Rear dampers are completely shot ,no bump damping at all;no surprise really, they are 48 years old.

  5. http://www.lytron.com/Tools-and-Technical-Reference/Application-Notes/The-Best-Heat-Transfer-Fluids-for-Liquid-Cooling Some reading here about thermal conductivity of water and glycol. Plain old water is best but obviously low boiling point and corrodes the engines. Have used Silkolene CCA in the dyno cooling system https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-819-silkolene-pro-cca-ultra-motorbike-cooling-system-corrosion-inhibitor.aspx
  6. He just eats dry biscuit things ,the dish is out all day and he eats when he wants. We don't give him any of our food,I don't like dogs sniffing about my feet when I'm eating. He is a bit greedy and wolf's down any treats we give him so maybe it is the air swallowing.
  7. Could be true, maybe he needs a new catalytic converter? Wouldn't put it past his owners to sneak in some joke doggie fart biscuits into his food
  8. We are dog sitting a friend's westie terrier for a couple of weeks. Although I've no desire to own a dog ,I do quite enjoy the annual task of taking him for a walk and the greetings from him when i get home. Just one thing though,we will be sitting down watching tv and all of a sudden there is this horrendous dog fart stench hitting our noses. The little git doesn't even have the decency to emit any warning noises. When does he go home???

  14. Do you think the owner would have been full of pride seeing someone photo their bike? Little do they realise its being mocked on here. Maybe that's his hack and the decent bike is at home? Or that is the decent bike and he has a bigger nail in the garage
  15. Are the carbs balanced ok? Inlet manifold rubbers ok,not perished or split? Valve clearances ok? Are they Cv carbs? Are the diaphragm rubbers ok? I'd be putting the std jetting back in to eliminate that from the equation and get it running properly first.
  16. You say you have "changed all the jets and pilots". Do you mean you have replaced them? if so with what? Like for like?
  17. Took the parts to Phil today. Thanks for the lead Did you get to have a look at the vintage scooters at Magpie Motorcycles while you were there ? They have some immaculately restored early Lambrettas but interestingly they also have some unrestored examples that are worth a lot more left exactly as they were found with only the mechanical bits refurbished. No,I took the parts to his home as I don't think he was working yesterday. Just checked out the Magpie website though, looks like a decent indy workshop. http://magpiemotorcyclesandscooters.com Don't get the whole fascination with scooters and the value of them can be crazy, but each to their own. Was at my mot tester the other week, there was a scooter outside around 2003 model, had got 107kms on the clock and he said the owner had been offered thousands for it. Just looked like any other scooter to me.
