1. As you can see had very similar weekend to geofferz
2. Yep, I am. 20201101_133935.jpg Looks much the same as my Sunday...the blue skies, sunshine and relaxing on the beach with a beer... yep very similar.. grey skies, mud, cup of tea
3. Our dog was fine with fireworks and guns but vacuum cleaners and electric lawnmowers were to be killed on sight. The patterdale couldn't give a toss about anything except for ironing boards. One fell on him when he was a pup. Watching him trying to bite an ironing board to death is quite entertaining. A dog that tries to destroy anything to do with ironing is my type of dog
4. I think a little bit of effort training pets not to be afraid of fire works is better than whining about them particularly when it’s all so predictable. I trained all of mine and puppy’s I bred in the past with a sounds CD (yer it was a while ago and it was ‘CD’) so they went to their clueless owners already fine with loud noises. It’s so simple. Start it playing at low volume and everyday play it a little louder. It’s amazing what they’re not bothered about it if introduced slowly and if you do it when they’re pups it lasts, no need to redo it, they just remember. The sound CD didn’t include a drill sound though- hot air balloon, screeching train breaks, explosions all fine but a drill oh no!
5. Worth mentioning that some insurances have ‘ground anchor’ in their small print so you have to have one or your not insured- it’s worth reading the sneaky small print. Plus if you tell the insurance you have certain types of security, this is noted and you have to use whatever it is every time as the quote and any discount you received was based on this. If you don’t it invalidates your insurance and they won’t pay up. I’ve did a quote with and without security and it made bugger all difference so now apart from a fitted alarm and tracker on one I don’t mention any of it, that way if I forget to use it I’m still insured!
6. Oh shit that’s an unknown quantity I wouldn’t relish thinking about. This is of no help but I don’t think they’ll shut the borders. Just stop people going on holiday so the next question is do you know a man with a boat who owes you a favour?!
7. Yeah I know and that’s a damn shame but I’m not gonna be deterred. People have bought houses in other non EU countries for donkeys without too much hassle. I doubt Spain or any other country wants to make itself undesirable to a potential expat moneybags. So we’ll see what inventive ways they come up with to lighten your wallet with extra ‘from outside the EU’ taxes n administration fees. I’d planned to keep England as my main residence anyway until it becomes clear where I’d rather be. So lay it on XTreme are the roads as good as they look? I’ve driven around in a car scoping the place out a bit and they look perfect.
8. If you have electric in your garage and it’s close enough for WiFi then this is surprisingly good, cheap and robust (dropped mine from a height several times because I was too lazy to stop the wires precariously draping in my path). It has 360 degree ‘vision’ a remote control for zooming around (from an app on your phone), good picture quality, quality night vision, the sd card overwrites so no running out of space, motion detection that sends an alert to your phone and marks any motion so you can easily replay just that section and a two way mic all for £24 The picture quality in HD is so good I can use it to zoom in and read an LCD temperature and humidity display on the other side of the room. If you have a lot of moths in your garage (we did before renovating it) then the motion detection alerts are annoying. Since then I’ve had only a couple of false alerts, not false as in they weren’t real just false as in I don’t want to fly into full fight mode to see the thief is actually my son helping himself to icecream at one in the morning. Evened the score though by opening the mic and shouting “This is the police, put down the icecream and step away from the freezer” watching his face on my phone from bed on holiday in France was worth £24 of anyone’s money! Everyone knows cameras don’t stop thieves (you just get to watch them steal it on playback) but what this one offers with the motion detection alerts is a chance to know it’s happening at the time and if they look armed and you don’t fancy your chances or you’re not there you can let them know you’ve called the police and are on your way so they’d better scarper. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07XR2NWZC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
9. Well it’s definitely the plan. But business is at the moment down about 25% and it’s nigh on impossible to think of doing something like that when you might soon have to make people redundant so yet another BAAAAAAASTAAAAARD (dunno if you can hear me shouting from here?) Covid thing! Putting the irritation of daily realities aside for a minute. Yes definitely it’s now a matter of when. If it all goes completely tits up then it’ll be soon! Plan to rent for a while first n get to know the area. Don’t want to discover I’ve moved just down the road from a place I would have enjoyed a lot more.
10. This is bloody killing me! You have to STOP Back in February I had a deposit down on a place in Granada and was gearing up to start a gradual move over so by now when the last vestiges of the British summer have left n the cold dark months have left that mobiking sinking feeling I would be in Spain and enjoying riding in the sun. Aaaaargh I hate Covid... But I love the vids god damn it. As Bullseye would say “Look at wha u wudda won” aaaaaaargh.
11. The advice on this thread is sound (with exception of the bizarre put a tent in a tent contributor). I made a list from the suggestions here and worked through it finding the things I thought would suit. The brands suggested are still the ones to go for. Some items I bought cheaper knock off versions of and some I didn’t skimp on but everything is still in good nick and does the job. Tent advice is all over the shop and definitely a personal preference thing. I recently changed to a Robens teepee tent due to my other half complaining about not being able to stand up and that was an excellent change. I was dubious about the pack size and central pole but needn’t of worried, it’s easy, stable and much more civilised. I’m yet to buy a decent solo tent. The memory foam pillow recommendation is probably the one that’s probably saved me most sleep. I bought a shredded memory foam pillow as you can remove some of the foam to make the pillow height that suits. Well worth crushing it into one of those sealing bags you squeeze the air out of. These (non vacuum) ‘vacuum’ bags are also great for compressing and keeping dry clothes. My air bed did not last long and I discovered no matter the fancy claims on the outside of the box it really does all come down to size. The thicker the mattress the more comfortable it is. Usually this adds considerably to the pack size. I recently found one that’s both a large matress and a tiny pack size but still extremely comfortable. At this price I won’t be crying into my soup when it perishes. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07N4KK854/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I didn’t get on with the cocoon sleeping bags, I like legroom and have two thin regular shaped ones which are warmer than one thick, still pack down small and allow a lot more temperature options depending on how you layer them. I looked for lightweight stuff which doesn’t much matter on a bike but making something lightweight is generally done by making it small and space is always at a premium. I didn’t order much from the below website cos the markups high but you can list your search by weight and 9 times out of 10 light mean small. The inflatable solar lantern is worth every penny (also cheaper bought elsewhere). Check reviews to make sure light doesn’t equate to a flimsy short lifespan though. https://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/ Overall it’s a bit of guesswork, trial and error and priorities on your space. I gladly give up space for having both a mug and a (acrylic) glass, a decent pillow and a chair because that’s what makes me happy but other folk would consider these items a waste of space. Finding out how well your kit works is one of the pleasures, I’ve discovered lots of great tips and bits of kit along the way. Camping trip imminent? Obviously not in the next month I’m guessing!
12. That's because they ain't a car derived van, your right lots of confusion and people get caught out. Just looked up the Navara it’s 2038kg. They obviously make sure they scrape in under the weight limit!
13. So dumb question is a pick up truck a car derived van? Or a van? Or a car?
14. Aah I was wondering if it was twat or tit!
15. Oh dear! not good, once you let them loose on tools and they discover the joys they start buying their own, and you know that they are their tools f**k me! I must have not noticed us being wrenched back to the fifties! Is this what the services change is about? To update the attitudes @Stu ?
16. I thought pick ups go purely on weight. 2000 and summink kilos or over they have van speed limits under 2000n summink kilos they have car speed limits?
17. Had a Nissan Navara donkeys ago. Really enjoyed it. Got a bit fed up not being able to sling things into the back from the front seat or vice versa getting out usually in the rain to retrieve stuff. Went back to a van in the end. Nice n waterproof. But I still don’t regret owning one, probably would have kept it a lot longer if my other half hadn’t wrapped it around a post. That reminds me the airbag failed which at the time was a known but not recalled fault?!?!
18. geofferz thats great thanks. Not quite moving into airbrush territory yet cos with a few exceptions I have a history of taking up a hobby doing it until reasonably proficient and then going “bored of that now.. NEXT” Don’t want to waste money on tools. Although I do like wasting money on tools Cpt_Tact Any pics?
19. Yeh I have. Watched quite a few YouTube tutorials on it. Decided to leave that for another day cos I know I’d likely be unhappy with the first dip n find myself scrapping wet paint off a lid! Have you tried it?
20. Just the general musings of the multi faceted, well rounded people you get in this forum... rahahahahah.. well rounded.. hahahaaa
21. It’s is indeed an apples n oranges comparison. I find apples disappointing they are the Vanilla, magnolia, silver colour car of the fruit world. Then again I can’t be bothered peeling oranges and unless the oranges are really a mandarin or tangerine from Marks n Sparks or an orange grove in Spain they vary from tasting like grapefruit to soapy water so they aren’t worth the bother either. Jus offering up a cheap low tech solution for Bonio and those who don’t use sat nav all the time!
22. Great advice thanks. I’d thought a quick practice would be wise but didn’t think of doing it on a plastic container to try out the primers.
23. That was my first choice but then I thought I’d prefer no stickers. Easy and a cleaner look. Mind you thats assuming I can achieve a clean look, pretty unlikely on a first stab!
