Custom lid painting.
Slowlycatchymonkey replied to Slowlycatchymonkey's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Thanks dynax n husoi I’ll have a look at those paints. Yep I get the prep things 75% of the effort, I got a gloss helmet so I’ll be able to see when I’ve removed enough of the surface without going too far in. I’m thinking about taking off the sticker though It would be a risk if you’re stopped by someone not au fair with the law but they just have to state they’re compliant and they usually put it in the label inside the helmet now, they have in the one I wanna paint so.... -
learningtofly mmm a biker tidy, any good? I have an open face and get what you mean about the freedom thing, rode around some fields with no helmet and its great, I can see why people protested against the introduction of helmet laws. Came to the conclusion Fred Hill was right people should have the choice to splat their brains out if they want to. But on the road I’m with S-Westerly and I don’t even wear my open face helmet cos a broken jaw or facial injuries don’t appeal much, my mug doesn’t need to be any uglier!

Wireless charging phone mount
Slowlycatchymonkey replied to raesewell's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
I’ve been using one of these for 3 years with no problems. As I rarely use sat nav (mainly I just get lost a lot) I like not having a bulky case on my bike all the time and it’s easy position on the bars. It’s easy to switch it from one bike to another (or even a bicycle if you’re that way inclined) without having to bother with brackets n screwdrivers. Used to prefer dedicated sat nav but now (some) phones are waterproof and sat nav apps work I can’t see the point in carrying extra stuff that needs charging and removing from the bike when you stop. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07798GW1T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If I’m on the 125 with no charging ports it can also accommodate a slim flat battery pack in the holder under the phone. The iPhone adapter is well hidden in this battery (so well I thought it was missing) but it’s good to have it all neatly packed in one tiny battery. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B018SDGHWU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -

Doing it myself. If the helmet city guy is using someone local they might be happy to talk to me about paint etc -
Ouch! Was he wearing an open face? Yep. Sometimes recommended for learners cos of the better field of vision

An organised off road day on the Himalayan with a company that’s well reviewed but I’ve never used before. Someone posted on the Himalayan Facebook page about their “wonderful day out with them” a week or so ago. You get further into the post n pics and see his bike plastered with blood. Turns out he had a off, mashed his face and had to stop at lunch time. Mind you the bikes white so it probably looked worse than it was The mud n water looked deep then and it’s been peeing down since so it’ll be interesting to see what the conditions are

Thanks bonio I’ll ask him about it. If it’s the slim, polite, quietly spoken guy he’s pretty sensible -
I had this problem recently on my 125 and I was told it might be a sticky fuel float in the tank. This sounded most unlikely to me who clearly knows nothing cos I followed the instructions below and it’s now working perfectly. Empty fuel tank. Clean float if you can (I couldn’t n didn’t). Waggle it up n down and whilst spraying with Easy Start n make sure it’s moving freely. Good as new. The float felt like it was already moving freely before the easy start but clearly it wasn’t. I did also refuel adding some fuel stabiliser, that wasn’t part of the fix but I’ll never know if it was part of it working again.

I had grip puppies and they definitely reduce vibrations. I was surprised the heated grips still worked well. Had to take them off in the end though because I found them quite uncomfortable over longer distances. I think they don’t suit small hands so well cos I gave them to my husband and he really likes them, says they’re much better than normal grips.

The Very Definition of Dark Motorcycling!
Slowlycatchymonkey replied to a topic in Ride Reports and Pictures
I think it’s more often the way its questioned that causes the friction. So often there’s no actual substance to the questions, the question so often seems to be a statement telling the other person to stop complaining and get on with it, that somehow they’re simply not tough enough. As if there’s no issue to be discussed and it’s usually said by folk with no grasp or experience of what the OP is saying. Asking what somethings about is one thing shutting something down because it’s not understood or sounds threatening is something else. So yeh unfortunately those loud right wingers have got a lot of good folk labelled. -

The other ER5 restoration .
Slowlycatchymonkey replied to fastbob's topic in Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations
I suppose only time will tell. Considering the quality of your work on the rest of the bike it would be cosmetically annoying but not something you couldn’t rectify. You obviously have a lot of elbow grease! -

Wow. I’ve really enjoyed this thread. Thanks fastbob I couldn’t read it quick enough! Such a nice job, it’s hard to believe how well some of those parts came up. The blue body kit was a bargain. I also found sourcing quality petrol resistant lacquer a nightmare. They just don’t do what they say on the tin with tons of reviews saying how they crack and peel easily ruining the finish. In the end I found Spraymax 2K which was the only one anyone recommended for giving a smooth professional level finish that lasts. Apparently unless the lacquer is in two parts and mixed just before spraying it’s gonna be too soft and weak for using in a vehicle. It also means you’ve got limited time to use the can once you’ve mixed it. It’s also expensive but very well reviewed. Thought you might be interested for your (next) winter project -
That’s nice but I think you’ll find it’s the bike she’s eyeing up

Bit different, innit? Uhuh

Mawsley I had to do a double take at your spaniel. Looks very similar to my old boy. They’re always so pleased with themselves when they find their favourite perfume -
This gives me chills cos you just don’t know what’s in store when it comes to your children’s choice of partner and apart from being obliged to warn them if your early extreme nutter alarm bell sounds when you meet them you’ve pretty much gotta stay out of it.
-
These sort of people are exhausting to know let alone be tethered to cos of a blood tie. Not that u get a lot of choice in it. They make everyone miserable and generally aren’t happy themselves. It’s just a sad waste of life. Children though seem to be good at eventually recognising if their parents are unhinged and often review everything once they escape so there maybe improvements later... I hope. Or yeah there’s the hitman option
-
That sucks. Hopefully at some point he’ll think “I’m not happy, my children aren’t happy” and do something about it.
