Back in Black...on the Stealth Beemer!
Slowlycatchymonkey replied to a topic in Ride Reports and Pictures
Beautiful. -
Can’t disagree with any of that. But most tv is mind numbing anaesthetic so with that in (or out ) of mind I’d prefer the “varying degrees of entertainment value” to be higher rather than lower in sound n film quality - as with the generally low you tube style. A prancing self preening monkey doing a jig in front of a camera is what we generally pay for. So dance monkeys dance, make my mobike tv viewing fun and earn your coin

Yep I second that. On a longer ride I always get dehydrated cos I can be bothered to take my lid off. The flip up stopped that and fumbling around to find zips n Velcro and plugging in stuff for charging and fuelling ups easier. I’ve just bought a Nexo flip up (cheapy flip up) from sportsbikeshop to have a go at custom painting. What could possibly go wrong?!?!

Buying a bike from a dealer - any advice?

Very nice looking bike. Congrats bonio -
I have a full face and flip up (Neotec 2) and I always find myself going for the flip up because it’s just much more convenient. Safety wise your looking for one that declares its ‘dual homologated’ which means its safety has been tested as an open face helmet and as a full face. Surprisingly some flip ups are only safety tested as open face helmets so it doesn’t matter if the chin bar stays shut or if it offers any protection! It’s worth looking at the SHARP rating which lets you know how well the chin bar stands up to impact. If the helmet you want hasn’t been rated by them (and assuming it’s dual homologated) you can looks at the brands scores on their other helmets and it’ll give you an idea of how well the brand tends to fair. ps If you’re considering the Neotec the integrated sena coms kit that you can purchase for it looks good but isn’t particularly functional because at higher speeds (40-50mph) the speakers are too quiet. They’re fine for music but for coms.. pah. No earbud port either, unless you’re happy to hack into the expensive and flimsy wiring and add one. Which I did and it worked out well. ‘Billy’s Bike Helmets’ website has useful helmet reviews.

Thanks Something good seems to have happened to you lot whilst Ive been gone. This thread is quite incredible. Puts me in mind of my bezzie returning from Oz, she was a mess and it wasnt going to end well so I persuaded her to come back n live with me for a bit. For a while she made life very hard work but every now n then whilst being a PITA she’d get a glint in her eye and sing a line from a song All my friends are f*ck ups but they’re fun to be around

It comes into its own off road. It gets some negative commentary from the mud pluggers cos of its weight and ground clearance but it couldnt be easier to handle. The weights very low and its well balanced, the seat height suits most people (even shorties). Chris Scott and Nathan Millward who are both respected overlanders own and rate the bike well. It goes where you point it regardless of the surface so people who actually own them love them warts n all. The warts are the brakes, pathetic ABS, dodgy side stand thats too tall and a headlight that could do with being a bit brighter. They dont hide that its only 24.5bhp so youre gonna get just that which if youre used to more power is a bit of a surprise but once you adjust your mindset its a bike full of smiles. I went to sell mine (didnt want to but part ex seemed sensible at the time) left it at a dealers in Swindon and within a week found myself rushing back to get it because I knew it was a mistake. A lot of capability for very little money. All steel so if you have an oops it all simply bends back rather than breaking or snapping parts like most bikes. Plus its a bike that wears it bashes well. There are strong rumours the new Himalayan will have a touch more power but this is unconfirmed. It will have better brakes, better ABS, better side stand though which would be a bonus. If you’re getting one then Id consider forking out for a days off roading. There are off road centres that use only Himalayans (so you mash up their bikes while youre learning) based in Ledbury and another in Dorset that are worth a go. There are probably some based further up the country too but being a softy southerner I wudna know! Itll give the opportunity to really get to know the bike before committing. Im going on a one this Friday, should be a laugh!

I was COVID lockdown level bored which is the only excuse I have for posting back here! Plus cos this one kinda struck a chord. It’s a massively underestimated bike. If you’re intending to do the majority of your riding over 65mph then this is not the bike for you. However if you like most peeps aren’t gonna be on the motorway the majority of the ride it will service you well. It’s slow n chuggy but somehow that aids the beautiful views not being stolen by going too fast and yet suddenly there you are cruising atop a reliable steed with the bike simply taking you where ever your mind wanders. I’ve tried this bike out in a variety of settings and it’s not let me down. Not even in the Welsh valleys second inline to a road racing crazy face did it let me down. Not even in the deepest awful mud and water did it fail. ps to anyone I’ve not seen for the last yearish or so Hi, glad you’re still alive.

Felt plastitcy, at that price I wouldn’t expect that.

Ooh looking forward to the write up. ‘ 159bhp that’s three times what you started on just a few months ago..... take it easy and ENJOY

For me, bringing party ring biscuits to the show for me is a dangerous business, bring ice buns even more so, and if it's an apple turnover... There's going to be a pregnancy If the government in Brunei read this thread, I think they'd expand their definition on what constitutes a stoning I don’t think you’ll be in the Brunei’s good books but fertility clinics everywhere will be thanking god the solution is a simple apple turnover

Our fire training when I started mumble years ago was the best, an ex fireman employed by the trust full time and we’d actually have a go at the things we were supposed to do- pulling a patient down the stairs on a mattress (used staff member for that obviously) and discovering just how fricken hard it was to get that thick foam mattress round a stairwell, glad we practised it cos there was a definite method. He’d set fire to huge pans- they were a good 100cm X 100cm and you’d get to pick the right fire extinguisher and put it out. Now it’s online and I can’t tell you a thing that’s on it.

Errr....I used to be a Fire Service instructor, a gliding instructor and a ROSPA Associate Tutor .... and (despite my best efforts)... I'm still alive and (as far as I know) so are all of my pupils. So I must have been doing something right... I did say that some I'd met along the way were pretty damned good and it wasn't me who coined the phrase. Professional trainers are often the better ones but in my industry some are a waste of space. For example some years ago I was required to attend a course mandated by the IMO to get a bit of paper. The instructor had never actually performed the operation he was 'teaching' whereas I had done over 70 by this time. What he was teaching was plain wrong and when challenged got a bit upset. I’ve been to LOADS of those. Best one though was an ophthalmic tutor we had for a year who had never worked in an eye hospital

In this case he really couldn’t, he would have been a terrible mechanic. You’d reluctantly hand over something that was nearly done and within moments his Frank Spencer hands had wrecked the lot. On one occasion I was watching on in disbelief while he tried to reassemble something he’d just accidentally pulled apart when I got hit in the eye by a spring S-Westerly yer I’ve walked out of one or two but I’d paid for it and wanted the info so 3hrs a week for a term I turned up optimistic he’d got his act together..... heyho

Speedy23 of course I did. He didnt know where to go with it because mainly he teaches teenagers and as no-one else was saying anything (just quietly sniggering a lot) he thought it must be my problem and was flailing around looking for reasons why hence the rubbish that left his mouth. I considered complaining for some time but after this I got the sob story that was his life and he really was a train wreck, teetering on the edge. I didnt want responsibility for pushing him over. I can’t kick a man when theyre down. Even a heap like that.

Sorry to hear that Tankbag its always hard when anyone dies but when theyre very influential in your life its harder.
