Thanks for the speed camera warning! I am partial to a bit of jumping in, especially when I know there’s a good not expensive bike mechanic down the road who’s ex bmw. -

That reminds me of a lad who came to work at the fish shop during the evening while going to catering college through the day. Every little thing was "its not like that at college" "college would never allow that" Final straw came when he said we should never do any cleaning until we closed at night (just like college did) He was told by the owner "do whatever your tutor tells you to while in college, but in my shop, in the real world we start cleaning as early as possible so we can all bloody go home at a decent hour" p.s. I'd get that bike, it looks bloody nice!! Lol there’s definitely a real world gap isn’t there. At uni they used to refer to it as ‘bridging the practice theory gap’ You used to have to write reflective essays on what you were taught and what actually happened in practice. I always found it bewildering, why did they just teach us what actually happens?! -

Gerontious thankyou for the detailed info. I think I’m going to have a look. When you say you have one would I be correct in assuming it has a high seat height? That could throw a spanner in the works. I’ll request the vin number and reg and see what it throws up. I almost wish I hadn’t seen it, it’s not the trail bike I had in mind (I’ll cross that bridge a bit later ) I like tractors. The first vehicle I drove was a tractor and at 15 it was first love. Until I drove the digger a week later when it was dumped like yesterday’s news A test ride would be needed to let me know if I could be happy on it for hours. No ABS did make me pause for a moment. -

So if you rode it and it went well would you think that it’s ok? A ride doesn't always give you an idea on suspension linkage bearings! The only real way is to strip it and look! This was my suspension bearings on a low mileage bike that had been sat for a while! 2014-11-18 13.38.30.jpg Although mine was nowhere near as clean and looked like it had done at least one winter! And stored outside I will have bought whatever potential heartache I land on by then!! ps I didn’t know they went rusty like that, all the bikes at college were shiny and clean, even the oil was clear! -

Ha ha I had concocted a story that there used to be something used as bike polish that went streaky at speed, not the rather more usual use of the word polish... I have been up since 4am, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it. -

It is expensive but it’s low (I’m short), it’s goiing to be reasonably close to the bike I have so I won’t ride it resentfully wishing it was my 9T, it’s already racked out with panniers and a screen which is a bonus. It wasn’t really what I had on my radar but I was browsing as you do and thought hmm why not ask those in the know whether they’d take a look or pass! -

Paging all wise mechanical wizard types. What do you think? Not about it’s looks, I like them but on buying a bike this old? Would it be a clanger that I’d regret or given the low mileage would it be ok? What should I look out for on an aged BMW? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201901073706337?advertising-location=at_bikes&make=BMW&keywords=Panniers&postcode=bs229lh&radius=1500&sort=price-asc&page=4 edit: apart from the width

.....Seriously, it's 'cos you are getting tired......just nature's way of letting you know it's time for a rest........listen to her. I've ignored her in the past, and found out that she wasn't lying...... But - where was the photo of the fabled BMW? I wanna see your new mudguards! Aah yes the mudguards.... well I’m not sure how they haven’t been put on yet but somehow they haven’t and I can say I definitely need them, poor 9T is plastered Coincidentally I found the man to finish them today! Well I say found, I haven’t asked him yet but he’s highly recommended (by all accounts he’s such a lunatic people avoid him but he has an OCD about things being perfect and takes time over every job ) It might be a rest thing, I’ll give it a go but I was suddenly aware after my speeds increased I’m not bringing it back down again when it’s no longer appropriate and kind of have the bit between my teeth on the more more MORE front. Stopping would probably fix that too! I consciously reduced my speed right down yesterday and hey presto better (safer) riding. It reminded me of when I was a kid and I’d get off the motorway and suddenly find myself approaching a roundabout too fast. Thought I would have recognised it but one thing I’ve noticed about a bike is it wants to go fast and speed is a lot more deceptive! -

The supposed advantage of custom fit over foam is improved noise isolation. Custom fits give isolation of 30db or less, well fitting foam plugs around 40db which is also good but its all in the fit, foam or other mouldable plugs often allow leakage around the plug that customs don’t. They have the advantage of filters allowing you to hear speech (for me only just) and enjoy the engine sound albeit with quite a few decibels knocked off. If you really want to push the boat out they do Bluetooth customs for muchos moola! I used mercury customs and found them good, much better than the ones from the hospital which were double the price! They do lots of shows all over the country. https://mercurycustomplugs.com

Did anyone check out the Gate and Greedy Goose suggestions? They sounded good. Yes do turn up on a bicycle, the kangaroo court will be merciful......

Ohh for a tenner I'll def give them a go! Fankoo! My last memory of trying to use wired ones, I did roll a little too much and end up with them wrapped around my neck! Yep that can happen but being able to lay on one side without them digging in is worth it

Had a lovely ride out today 18 degrees in Bristol- I boiled in my sub zero suit until I unplugged and opened some vents! Lots of people milling about in the sunshine outside. A guy that took tag photos for me was getting his KTM fixed before he goes to Norway at the weekend after which he has a weekend in Spain on his bike. I made a new (unwelcome) friend in the biker cafe who plonked himself down next to me and proceeded to regale me with ummm not sure he was on about for quite some time! Apart from that it was a fine and dandy riding day. I’ve realised why my riding is smooth and enjoyable at the beginning of the ride and scrappy n disjointed at the end. SPEEEED. -
Nooooo I’ve not even got the lids off!

.....is that a fridge door? Lots of new handles on ebay........ It is but I’m wondering if it being difficult to open might reduce my food bill

Six30 Hey! I guessed the diffusing of a situation by offering biscuits was upsetting your bloodlust so I’ve steered away from biscuit related conversations.... mostly. I promise the next time the posts are going south, toys are being flung out of prams and I get that feeling children are squabbling I will stay out of it.... unless I can’t

Gin these are great for falling asleep in. Better than the moulded customs on the sleep front! https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CQHJ6CD/ref=sspa_dk_detail_4?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07CQHJ6CD&pd_rd_w=6Zmii&pf_rd_p=e2bfafb5-111e-4906-b089-5d691a51d45f&pd_rd_wg=r9N2q&pf_rd_r=FQJKWQCH8C3S8DMGZ2F6&pd_rd_r=66fb253b-392c-11e9-93c4-d934e727d02a Just remember to never pull them out using the wires and get hold of the earbud itself to remove them
