  1. It was particularly bad in the multi-storey this evening, where I was reminded of another odd thing. When turning to go up the ramps between floors the front wheels chatter across the concrete as though they are being pushed sideways. Very odd. It's always done it, with wet tyres and dry, old and new, and regardless of speed. Anyone know what might be causing it?

    Diff lock on?

  2. Road tax - £500

    MOT - £58.50

    F*ck!

What the f**k do you drive that chucks out over 255g/km of CO2!?!?

It's actually "CO₂Emissions 280 g/km" according to DVLA and the V5

It's a Shogun 3.2 Di-D, and I can hear a rain forest cry every time I start it

  3. I have a few questions about hard tails though... Are there any regulations to stick to regarding height from the road? mudguard clearances etc?

    Adam.

Look here for lighting heights etc... http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/made

And here for the number plate regs http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2001/561/regulation/8/made

You might also want to have a read of the Construction & Use Regs for motorcycles http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/made

And when it's all ready for the road don't forget to notify your insurer that it's modded.

  4. No. You've missed the point. My point is, I was up to your "standard" as I passed the poxy thing. Yet once again I have to practice for it in order to pass, which means as soon as I'm out the door of the test centre with a pass, it'll be the last thing I think of when some bird on horse strolls out in front of my bike.

No. You've missed or perhaps misunderstood my point.

It matters not that one may have passed 10 years ago. If the test is today, one needs to demonstrate their ability today.

As for the test itself, I shall carry on teaching the subtle but very important difference between potential and developing hazards as that is what the test is designed to highlight in a graphical context. And I will do so in the knowledge that some candidates will quite deliberately ignore what they have learnt once the test is passed for reasons best known to themselves.

  5. Kind of irrelevant if you have to practice for it, though.

Either your gonna spot hazard early or your not. I've been driving ten years and I still have to practice for this damn test. That might be a damming indictment of my own driving ability, but considering I passed it 10 years ago and still have to practice to pass it again for the bike, renders it utterly useless.

If you were right, the same could easily apply to any aspect of the test. As in "I can do it in a car, making me practice roundabouts/controlled stop/junctions/et al is therefore pointless".

Luckily, you're not right, so all elements of the test are valid.

And if you have to practice it simply means you're not up to the required standard yet, so keep practicing till you're good enough to keep yourself (and US!) safe when you're on the roads

  6. I get sent to halfords quite regular to pick up bulbs/wiper blades as you get quite a savng from these.

It's a journey of 99 miles each way to my nearest Halfords, so the discount would need to be pretty huge to make it worthwhile using 8 gallons of fuel.

  7. The assessor has valued it around £1730 including £105 for salvage (or thereabouts). As I've yet to hear regarding liability I have not done anything or agreed to anything with anyone!

    Graham

Seems perfectly straighforward to me... offer to buy the salvage at the assessed value - £105

  8. Anyone have any experience of taking the riding tests without any training past CBT? Would anyone recommend it, or encourage against it?

    Any thoughts appreciated :)

My son passed his test to gain a full A licence (restricted) with no training beyond CBT but I wouldn't advise it.

Pre-test training is more than just preparing you for the test, it's about preparing you to stay safe and alive on the roads.

  9. I saw a youtube vid recently where a guy used a hot air paint stripper gun to heat the area where there was a dent.....then, when it was fairly warm, he sprayed some of that freezer spray onto the area......and the dent popped out...... 8-)

That needs to be progressed carefully on a fuel tank

Or you could try dropping a lit match in and slamming the flap shut quickly...
