1. I've been looking at this of late, as there are a good few reviews/videos online now. It's a lovely thing, especially in it's more colourful guise! http://www.advpulse.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Moto-Guzzi-V85-tt-adventure-motorcycle.jpg
2. The number of times I've frantically pulled on zips whilst riding...
3. The City of London policeman who, having stumbled across my bike parked very, very illegally (after I totally failed to find a space in a parking bay), nodded at me and just walked on!
4. Not much to add really, save that I took my Mod 2 in Enfield; the examiner was very friendly and I didn't find the route held any nasty surprises. Just treat it as an opportunity to be out on your bike - you'll be fine. And, of course, good luck
5. Well, that's interesting... I just checked the benefits I get with my NatWest account, and it has full breakdown cover included (provided through Green Flag). Like the Nationwide package described above, it specifically INCLUDES recovery following accidents, vandalism, accidental damage etc. I think I feel even more stupid now, as I had no idea that I had this cover and I would have been relayed at no cost had I used it.
6. That sounds pretty comprehensive, and seems to provide cover for all the stated exclusions in the RAC t’s and c’s. What organisation provides the service, SometimesSansEngine?
7. Heaven forbid that a child might follow in a parents footsteps In these specific circumstances, but then you knew that.
8. I've followed this thread with interest. I'd like to think my views are pretty relaxed/liberal, and agree with the comments about gender stereotyping; however, I do understand the unease when a child appears to be following in his father's footsteps - I expect that there must have been a degree of influence, but how much of a factor that has been is likely something we'll never know. Anyway, I'm really piping up to say that I used to work for a construction company, and the commercial manager in my division was called Ian when i left. He is now a she called Samantha, and I have to say that i'm very impressed with the support he appears to have received from the company, and the manner in which my industry has embraced the change. I don't know that I'm entirely comfortable with the some of the things that I read/hear about gender, but I do think we need to move away from a position where societal norms are allowed to define who we are, and who we want to be. (As an aside, I find conversations with my daughter about this kind of thing very illuminating.)
9. I've just downloaded the full policy document and the exclusions are stated in there. I have to admit, I had no idea that the definitions of what constitutes a breakdown were so restrictive. Within AA If you have accident management on policy then recovery can be authorised and the charges are recovered from your insurance . Unsure how RAC work . Would that cover riding away with your wheels locked?

11. I'd be pretty brassed off with that response. We are with an alternative breakdown organisation who I have never called out in years except the once, when our daughter drove the car a few inches too far onto a muddy grass verge and got stuck. Technically it wasn't covered within our membership but as they said - you've paid your membership for years and never called us out so it's our chance to show a bit of goodwill - and they sent a guy to tow her out, check over the car and get her back on the road. So they've kept my annual subscription ever since. Perhaps time for you to switch cover? Yes, I agree with you 100%. They won't receive another premium from me.
12. Okay, an update:
13. Lol. In my defence I gave the bike an all over clean yesterday (annual leave well spent in the sun lol) and I did inspect the chain... no rusting and still slick so no urgent need. Though it did remind my I need to stock up on cleaner, and I think I might try this gear oil and baster approach!! That's the spirit
14. Hm, we had moderately similar once for recovery of my wife following an incident, but that was the insurance company itself. What's frustrating is you call up, relay details of what has happened and at no point up front do they advise that you wouldn't be covered in the circumstances you have just described. In our case we went to the financial ombudsman and still lost. I can send more details in a private message if you like. Thanks - I'll see how I get on with their response before putting you to the trouble. Fingers crossed!
15. In other news, I think I've identified the problem I was having with regard to the old chain and surface rust. I was soaking the chain in chain cleaner, and then using a chain brush that I was dipping in a bucket of water throughout the cleaning process to get the gunk off. I guess the use of water a mistake.
16. I’d literally just walked out of the dental surgery and was just going to poodle home, so I thought I’d leave the camera off. Shame - it would have been my first interesting upload .... Does the dental office have CCTV? Really happy it's all worked out in the end, even if it needed a shit accident to make it happen. Well, fingers crossed with regard to the RAC...
17. Perfect, thank you. Hopefully those little basting brushes will be nice and light on the oil release, but if not i'll find an old brush instead (they were only about a fiver, so I thought it was worth a go with them).
18. Well, Ive just heard back from the RAC, saying cover for the costs of the relay wasn't provided because the damage was the the result of a RTC, and as such should have been sought through my insurers. I've obviously put them right on that and have told them to pay up or face the matter being referred to the small claims court. I'll update you as and when!
19. That sounds very positive, thank you! My plan is to go over it once on the outside (applied where it goes around the rear sprocket, I imagine) and then go over it again on the inside. Does that sound about right?
20. Well, after making a pigs ear of keeping my last chain in tip-top condition, I'm now going to try the hypoid 80w 90 gear oil approach, and I have a set of these basting brushes coming from Amazon today that will hopefully make application a doddle (and they're cheap)... I'll let you know how effective they are in due course. Anyone else use gear oil, and if so is it effective? I was using Wurth dry wax lube previously, but whether or not it was operator error it was doing diddly squat in terms of keeping surface rust at bay
21. Yeah, without question. It went slightly pear shaped immediately, though, when some of the faster bikes set off before we were all ready and then proceeded to lead everyone onto the motorway (which we’d deliberatly avoided when planning the route). Still, it was fun
22. Well, I managed to upload a bit of footage from the ride out. It's , although we all got split up very early on.
23. Reminds me of the ride-out yesterday
24. That's what it's all about
25. That’s a lovely bike! Congratulations
