  1. Bought a part off ebay with Datatag on, rang Datatag they said the number had never been registered with them No I wouldn't buy an engine without a number on, if the Police stop you they will take the bike off you until you can prove it's legit.
  2. Cheers for supporting the warning letter first, seems the guy in the other thread didn't get or ignored the warning letter for not having insurance. Maybe the son got it and binned it without thinking about it
  3. Cheers, interesting read. According to my link you're supposed to get a warning first? The insurer said I was good till midnight on the day I cancelled even though I hadn't paid a penny, good of them I suppose. I think I'm one day without insurance in that case.
  4. £40 after cashback this year 3rd party only (bike is worth £600) 3,000 miles (got a car too) 100 business miles 8 years no claims mid 30's.
  5. The buggers did the auto-renewal on me ...was a dead card anyway so didn't get charged. "You have an outstanding balance of £112"....erm no I'm cancelling under the 14 day cooling off period. Just got it sorted for £65 + £25 cashback grand total £40
  6. Just been told by phone and letter that it's illegal for my vehicle not to be insured unless I've SORN'd it. It's taxed at present I'm just waiting for my next pay cheque (few days away) for the money to get it insured and MOT'd. "It is an offence under the Road Traffic Act to use or keep a motor vehicle without adequate insurance cover in force, unless the vehicle has been declared SORN with the DVLA, in accordance with the Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) regulations." edit: forget that just looked it up, what a con. What's the point in me getting it SORN'd (losing 1 month of tax) then go to the trouble of taxing it again 30 days later https://www.mustard.co.uk/insurance-guides/learn/continuous-insurance-enforcement/
  7. Notification for a 4 year old thread lol cheers
  8. You're lucky you can lift the garage door, the spring on mine snapped and went flying across the garage
  9. Don't nod at junctions would be my advice, can be the only thing I think he thought you did wrong. Concentrate on the road, only nod when safe to do so I sometimes see people nodding me on dual carriageways from the other side... I'm not nodding at anything over 69mph
  10. Yeah that one, it was £15 from the now defunct Maplin. I installed a cigarette style female socket (Marine type) to the battery tucked under the seat, so I leave the solar panel on the roof, cable comes in through garage door and I connect bike it when I park it up.
  11. buy a solar charger for the battery, remove the fire risk and the expense.
  12. Now you've got me. Yeah I can't do the balancing of carbs . Haven't got the equipment. Designing a website on motorbike maintenance of course
  13. Hi guys, doing a course on website design. Just interested on how many of you do your own servicing. No I'm not going to create a rival website Cheers.
  14. If anyone is interested, these are at Aldi again, bigger versions now for your bigger better phones with room for an external battery pack too. There is a Velcro option too which I bought for £6.99 https://www.aldi.co.uk/bikemate-handlebar-phone-holder/p/083862211565800 https://www.aldi.co.uk/bikemate-top-tube-phone-holder/p/083862213760101
  15. You didn't say if you put the old bulb back in again?
  16. Shouldn't have messed with the screw...screw it all the way back in then undo 1 and 1/4 of a turns (I'm guessing) to reset. I can't remember when, but old bikes used to have oil soaked air filters...is this one of them? I'm guessing the air filter is letting in too much or too little air for the bike to breath.
  17. 'old' Datatools can be disabled in 5 minutes...done mine.
  18. At the CBT you'll say you want to do it on a geared motorbike, if they don't think you can cope with gears they'll give you the option of doing it on a moped. They'll ensure you are confident on the bike before giving you your certificate and sending you on your way. Yes you can ride alone after the CBT for 2 years, if you pass your test in that time great, if not you need to retake it. Theory test doesn't have to be done until after you've done your CBT but I think it's sensible to do it before if you've never driven on the roads before. 125cc is the largest bike you can ride after your CBT
  19. Why's your CBF got a carburettor ? I think that's your problem Oh I see you've fixed it, well done
  20. I'm converted, my bike has been using a solar trickle charger for the past month. It now holds a charge when I go out and I get more than one chance of starting it up before the battery gives up I didn't quite understand everything you said, but will be trickle charging new batteries from now before use.
  21. I had a CBF125 2012 with weird electrical problems, what you need is to get it plugged into a Honda diagnostics machine. There maybe cheaper alternatives. It might help you narrow down the problem. Shorting parts of the circuit to try and figure out what's going wrong may have damaged the ECU. The port for the diagnostics is on the ECU btw. Please keep us updated as it will help someone else in the future https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-Motorcycle-HDS-Pro-Diagnostic-Best-OBD-Tool-For-Fuel-Injected-Motorcycles-/222578745146
  22. idling is no good, at idle my bike puts out 13v-14v, at optimum cruising revs voltage can go up to 16v. Hence why my lights flicker at traffic lights.
  23. Our car is 3 years old, computer says it's at 75% life. It's a stop/start so will cost a fortune to replace
  24. I put mine straight on bike and went for a long ride, like an hour.
  25. Okay, won't do. But I'm a very happy biker right now till it gets stolen I guess.
