  1. I had that once, and I used a thin strip of metal (I used one of the wife's flat hair clips and straightened it out) and a small screwdriver to turn the lock it took a while but I got there by moving the strip of metal backwards and forwards not in and out with slight pressure on the twist of the screwdriver and as you manage to push one tumbler in the right place it will hold there with the twist pressure on the screwdriver, keep going until you have all of them in the right place and the lock will turn, but be prepared for it to take a while and be patient as well, it took me over half an hour to open mine. 2. I might be wrong but looking at the photo it looks like the bit we can see is a joint that is slid in to another pipe so perhaps there is another pipe that slides over that around somewhere?
  3. Where on the battery is the spark coming from? Keith
  4. Well having read the post it is still very odd ??? I would of thought the flash would of gone to the air box but maybe it was and because it is a clear pipe it is acting like a fiber optic and reflecting it. Keith
  5. Well, have you clamped a wire under the tank causing a short? re the carbs have you snagged a cable or dislodged one? also you do not say what bike it is ? i think you should take the tank off again and check everything. Keith
  6. its some thing rubbing on the disk when the brakes are used, are the pads ok? are the calipers central to the disk? is as some one else has said a small stone jammed between the disk and the caliper or pad? it the disk being marked ? hope this helps Keith
  7. Well done so far but you do need to clean the carbs properly, remove all the jets one carb at a time and clean and blow through the jets also if you have an air line blow through all the holes and tubes in the carb body do each carb in turn so you do not mix up bits from one to the other, did you check the diaphragms for cracks splits etc, if there are any you will need to replace them, I would replace all of them as they are old, also while the float bowls are off hold the carbs upside down with the floats in place and blow by mouth through the fuel supply tube of each in turn and lift and drop the float you should not be able to blow through the fuel supply tube with the float down if you can you will need to replace the needle valves, again it might be wise to replace all of them, I assume the needle valves are the type with a rubber tip and this may well be no good now (hard), if they are the type that are metal, check the seats are not grooved (around the point) if they are they are scrap as is the female bit screwed in to the carb body they slide in too. Hope this helps, and I also hope I am not telling you how to suck eggs Keith

    Battery issue

Hi ric398, well first of all you should never run an alternator that is not connected to the battery you may of blown the diodes? Remove and check the brushes they may just need renewing, as to the magnet being to strong, WHAT !!! someone is having a laugh.

  16. Check the earth connection is clean and tight on the frame and battery and the live terminal is clean on the battery if there is no improvement see if you can jump start it with another battery even a car one, that will prove your battery if it is the same then it is something other than the battery or its connections, it sounds like a duff battery to me. Chain Noise

I put a new chain and sprockets on my Bandit 1200 the other month and it clicks when I turn the back wheel it is better when I have just lubed it, I would not worry about it I don't, but I did have a very good look at everything and found nothing. the best answer I could come up with was the clicking was the chain dropping in to the front sprocket on rotation, but there is nothing except normal chain noise on the move and I have done 3000 miles now. bad bike

mmmm, I would still strip the float bowl of the carb and see if it is full of crap and maybe water, if it is, clean it all out including the tank and the carb jets, it sounds to me like a blocked jet but you will need to replace the needle valve and it is sticking and that will not get any better Keith
  20. Hi All, some help please, I bought a 1992 BMW K75s and it was running when I got it home all be it a little rich on the mixture, I noticed the fan was not working so I switched it off and connected a meter to the fan switch and went to start the bike but it would not start, I took the spark plugs out and they were very wet with fuel, I cleaned and dried them and tried again and the same thing happened, I then unplugged the injectors and replaced the plugs and the engine ran until it had used the excess fuel up in the bores, I reconnected the injectors back up and turned it over for five turns and it was flooded again with fuel getting in to the sump as the level has gone up, the injectors seem to be delivering max fuel all the time, I have checked the injector rack throttle switch and that is ok, has anybody got any idea why it is doing this ? and could it be the injector control unit that has gone down? or something else ? Keith
  21. Norwich is still a 80+ mile return for me in Kings Lynn which is too far for an evening meet, why is there nothing in north west Norfolk except the M.A.G. meets every week at the Sandboy at Bawsey, the BMW club used to meet in the checkers at Wimbotsham (where the bike show is every year) but they had a row with the landlord and moved to the 5 miles from anywhere pub in Cambridge, The Triumph club meet just outside Norwich, see tomcc web site, other than that north west Norfolk is some sort of black hole for bikers, oh forgot one, there is a bikers meet in Hunstanton every Sunday morning/afternoon but no club meets that I am aware off. It needs somebody to start one !!! Keith

    chain lube

I got fed up with oil slinging on the wifes Jacket or should I say she did, anyway I bought a new chain as it needed replacement and cleaned all the oil/greese off it and fitted it, I then sprayed on muck off PTFE chain lube on which does not sling, It is clear and does not look as if anything is on at first, and I give it a spray every 300 to 400 miles and everything has been fine with no sling at all and a nice clean back wheen to boot Keith

    odd problem!

I get that on mine it is evaporation in the carbs with the heat rising, I just give it a bit more throttle and it ok then, nothing to worry about. Keith
  25. I bought a Harley with a dent like that, I filled the dent and re sprayed it, you could not see the repair when I had finished, just a thought
