  1. Fair do's... but surely then the incident with the young biker should have read 'ended up in hospital when his bike left the road' rather than 'ended up in hospital because he lost control of his bike and ended up in a field'. Nah nothing specific, there is a new one every day. The car and the bus was... yesterday? I'm sure there'll have been another today. There seems to be every other day. Maybe I'm just noticing it more... maybe they're just getting more coverage on the news... but the amount of RTAs being reported seemed higher than ever :/ I should probably just top reading the news, its depressing!
  2. This is something that gets my goat. Every time there is a news article on a road traffic accident involving one or more vehicles of the 4 wheeled variety the wording 99.9999% of the time seems to read something like say 'a person was left seriously injured when'... "the vehicle left the road", "the vehicle struck a tree", "the vehicle struck another vehicle", the vehicle struck a person", "the vehicle overturned" etc etc etc. "the vehicle" does not have a mind of its own, as this wording often seems to suggest. I do quite a lot of miles in my car and from what I see on a daily basis I'm surprised we're not reading "the vehicle was 2 inches from the arse of the vehicle in front at 70mph" etc Recently I read an article regarding a young motorbike rider who had ended up in hospital after ending up in a field with his bike. The wording? Along the lines of "the young motorbike rider was left injured when he lost control of his motorbike and ended up in a field" So apparently only 4 or more wheeled vehicles are capable of intentionally and maliciously injuring people, when its a 2 wheeled vehicle suddenly its the drivers own fault. (note, I am not saying the biker was not at fault my issue is when its a car/whatever involved its almost never the driver thats at fault, I am also not saying that there are never times when there are genuine accidents)
  3. I have one of these: http://www.visorcat.com/ however, have not actually been on the bike since getting it
  4. Car has to go into the garage, so the decision was train or bike the next day seeing as I had the gsxr mot'd and serviced some months ago and its just sat there ever since I decided to take that, first time i've ridden it in yrs (tho had given it a thorough check over at the weekend to make sure it was ready to go). So was up late last night making my lunch (wanting to leave earlier the next morning to avoid traffic so no time to make lunch) and getting my kit ready. Got up half an hour earlier than usual, downstairs, cover/chain/locks off the bike. Back up stairs, all the kit on. All sweaty and roasting before I even get outside :/ Downstairs, try to start the bike, doesn't start first time, no worries. Tried again... FLIPPING BATTERY DIED. Back up stairs, kit off, work clothes on, ask OH nicely for a lift to the train station RAGE.
  5. there isn't, but they have a FB page (just search the bikers cove)
  6. Congrats. There is a thread for central scotland peeps, its not too busy but maybe some NL peeps in there viewtopic.php?f=37&t=43651 I'm Bonnybridge, 5mins from cumbernauld. However my bikes are mostly garden ornaments these days. If you wouldn't mind travelling a bit further east the bikers cove in south queensferry is a popular biker spot.
  7. Yep, much easier to access with bike gloves on than pockets. Also carries spare visor.
  8. I think its generally more to do with confidence that height weight ratio. At 5'4 I can't flat foot either of my bikes and its never been an issue, nor has the weight. As noted above, most bikes can be lowered (although its not something I have opted to do). One toe is sufficient for me, if I really want a whole foot on the ground I can slide off the side of the seat a bit
  9. CBT is compulsary basic training, its not a pass or fail test its just enough training so you can meet the minimum standard to go on the road by yourself. Its aimed at complete beginners. It doesn't always take just one day. I sat my CBT having never ridden a motorbike before in my life and I did it over 2 days. Don't beat yourself up, you'll get there. Hopefully when you go back on tuesday you'll be feeling a lot more relaxed which will help. Best of luck for tuesday.
  10. 140mph on a motorway in the middle of the night... whilst using a handheld mobile device to take a picture at the same time. And while the motorway will be very quiet in the wee small hours, there is a good chance he will encounter other vehicles at some point. At 140mph, how long do you have to take your eyes off the road in order for something to 'appear out of nowhere'. This guy clearly had absolutely no regard for his own safety or the safety of others. And I agree with the point that plenty of people do it every day, just because they get away with it *that time* doesn't mean they will the next. The risks are known. People choose to ignore them. Maybe if sentences are harsher people would be less inclined to behave in the way this young man chose to - for the record this means behaving dangerously - not simply speeding.
  11. I have custom moulded ones from http://www.plugzz.co.uk/index.php/prices.html, they were £50-60. I have very narrow ear holes and no amount of twisting, squeezing or pulling will get the disposable ones in so I can't compare them to regular disposable ones. The only other ones I've tried are the boots silicone plugs which cover your ear hole rather than go in it, which I'd say are about equally as good in terms of cutting out noise.
  12. I think the large stormex will be too big for your bike, it is over 2.5m long! Internet reckons the nuda is about 1.5m long so you'd want a medium. I have a medium one for sale - its brand new, it just didn't fit either of my bikes and the postage was too expensive to make it worth returning it. I can't be bothered putting it on ebay or anything but its currently taking up much needed shelf space so if you are interested drop me a pm whenever.
  13. Has it arrived yet?! Any pics to share? I dusted mine off and took it out today, not getting the best results... photoshop throwing a hissy at the raw files... used a custom white balance on the camera as I've always done (new camera so different type of raw since last time i used it, maybe thats why?) but when I open the raw files in ps they are still red! Making post processing a little harder. I will try using auto wb next time and adjusting the wb on the raw file. Happy ish with this one, the trees are in blossom. Can't seem to get the grass/leaves that bright white. Hopefully not using custom wb on the camera will sort that :/ In The Park by Gayle E. Anderson, on Flickr
  14. 326 seats were needed for a majority win Tories finished on 331 Labour finished on 232 SNP finished on 56 If all 59 constituencies in Scotland voted Labour that would give them 290 seats (they have kept one seat), so still not enough to knock the Tories off the top spot.
  15. Nice one, look forward to seeing the shots
  16. I can't help, but you've just reminded me I have an IR filter (Hoya R72 screw on filter) that hasn't seen the (IR ho ho!) light of day in ages! Have fun whatever you decide, and please do post some pics once you've got it
  17. I ended up getting a 2nd hand set of oxford X60's off of ebay (and my OH is using the oxford sport which i think are 30L), they've done us several day trips and a heavily laden trip to Cornwall and back! They've got good big zip rings so we bought a load of cable locks and looped them through all the zip rings and onto the bikes so we could leave the panniers on the bikes unattended (and also meant I could secure on my little back pack rather than have to wear it). Also they have pockets on the outside and inside. I should have done a review of the oxfords, I'd definitely recommend them. All cable locked up: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/iiisecondcreep/Bikey/UK%20100%20challenge/2012-09-13175313.jpg
  18. Sitting at traffic lights in a 3 lane one way system. I was in the left hand lane with one car in front of me, left lane goes straight on and left all other lanes go straight on only. The car in front of me was a bit slower pulling away because he was going left, so the car to his right went straight on, the car to my right ended up with his bonnet about 2m in front of mine at which point he decided he was going left as well and swung right across my lane. Fortunately I hadn't moved off as quickly as I usually do so I had plenty of time to stop. He didn't even start indicating until he was already in my path!!
  19. As posted by the Highway Code on FB: A new law has come into force today (12 March 2015) which removes the £5,000 cap that used to limit the maximum fines magistrates could impose. There are now unlimited fines for a number of the most serious offences, including causing death by dangerous driving. https://www.gov.uk/highway-code-penalties/penalty-table
  20. Consultation: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... er__F_.pdf "Compulsory basic training (CBT) for learner motorcyclists has remained largely unchanged since its introduction 25 years ago. We are reviewing the delivery of CBT courses for motorcyclists to help ensure that learner riders are better prepared to ride safely on today’s roads." As a result of: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... report.pdf
  21. It probably wouldn't, I found it was slightly too short lengthwise (it may just be long enough for your bike) but its massively baggy everywhere else!
  22. I use the R&G covers, they are pretty good. before buying my current ones I decided to 'upgrade' to an oxford stormex which looked and felt great but was a terrible fit for my bikes. I still have it as postage was too much to send it back. Its still up for grabs if anyone is interested! Medium size, might fit an er6!
  23. Tried the Bikers Cove or any of the local MCCs for meeting more peeps?
  24. We got radios with headsets from 'Clas Ohlson', £80 in all for 2 radios with rechargable batteries + charging stand and headsets
